New shoe heel pain!

I've been running injury free in Asic gel-nimbus' for years but am now doing more trail running so thought I'd get some trail shoes.
Tried some Salomon XR Crossmax but these gave me blisters on outside of ball of foot area. I've now bought some Inov-8 Race Ultra 290 shoes and have run 3 times (on grass) and each time they've given me sore heels (feels like where the achilles tendon attaches to the heel bone). I've switched back to my Asics for the moment and the pain has gone.

Do I keep trying the new shoes in the hope that they get better or do I buy yet another pair of shoes? All I'm looking for is more grip on muddy trails but I don't want to risk a long-term injury like achilles tendonitis. Any advice gratefully received.

Unlikely to get better so not worth it. Try an Asic's trail shoe.

Thanks Ellis. Guess that's what I'll have to try next.

If they have gone past the return-by, don't be afraid of taking scissors or a knife to the offending area. I once had a pair of ASICS Lahar that pushed on my achilles too much. I cut off the top of the heel area with a box cutter and they were fine. I did take the trouble to sew together over the top of the cut but I think they would have held together anyway.

Hi Steve. Good point and I would have no hesitation in taking the scissors to them but I fear that the pain is not surface pain i.e. not due to rubbing or pinching. I've got an important 1/2 marathon in a few weeks so will stick with my asics for now then give the inov8's another chance after that and if it still hurts, buy some asic trail shoes.
Thanks for the input.

Run well.
