UPDATE (another one)
My last consultant admitted that they couldn't fix my problem so referred me to yet another consultant... I dread to think how many I've seen now!
I finally got an appointment with the new consultant on Feb 1st. Had a long chat with him, he examined me and took a basic history of the injury.
After the examination he sat down and said, "well, I've never come across this before and I don't know of anyone else who has had a case like this before, it is very rare but very interesting"
He agreed with me in that it's a Common Peroneal Nerve problem, and said he would do his best to fix it, but couldn't guarantee anything, because it's so rare.
He then told me to go and get together all the notes on who I've seen, private and NHS, and what they've done, test results, scans, as much as I can. He said he would go and look in all the journals, research as much as he could to see if he could find another case similar to mine to find out what could be done.
I've got all of my notes and test results together now and I'm just waiting for some scan films. My consultant's secretary phoned me this week and said that he wanted to see me on 29th Feb, and have even overbooked the clinic to get me in!
So, things are at last moving. I got the injury on 2nd April 2006 and it's taken almost 2 years of scans and tests by a number of different consultants to finally find someone who is enthusiastic about helping me. But at least I've found him!
I'll let you know what happens on the 29th... two weeks from today
