Achilles Pain

Went out yesterday to attempt 12.5 miles as my last long run before Reading on the 21st, about 5 or 6 miles round I got a pain in my left leg and I took the most direct route back to my car, running with a bit of a limp.

Today it is quite painful, hurts when I pull my toes upwards (stretching my achilles) and also hurts to press on a certain spot. Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on what I have done and how serious it could be? Also anything I can do to speed recovery - I am 13 days away from my first half marathon at this point.

I would go and see a specialist pretty quickly. It sounds like it could be quite serious and you may need to consider rescheduling your race.

In the meantime, RICE.

Thanks for the reply, not what I wanted to hear obviously but I will definately take it under advisement. Will see if I can get a doctors appointment, knowing my local GP it is likely to be 3 weeks Sunday before they can see me though.

Amazingly I was able to get an appointment today and my GP said that the tendon seems fine, more of a muscluar injury. Wasn't sure about my race but said to give it a few more days and try a gentle run, if it is still painful then I wont be able to compete. Fingers crossed.
