As has been mentioned many times already, it's very hard to judge emotion or 'tone of voice' when typing on a forum, so for everyones sake I always find it best to a) think about what you're typing, and whether it could be mis-interpreted (regardless of if it's meant to be a joke), and b) when reading something that could potentially be offensive, try not to react to it and enter an excessively heated debate.

People may think they should be able to say what they want, but in my opinion that's not the case - this is a friendly public forum where anyone should be able to come, read it's content and not feel uncomfortable. Please forumites, can we try and hold back any personal grudges that may be developing and stick to the topic(s)?!
Richard - If I was slighly more articulate I'd would have said exactly the same thing. Keep up the good Moderating

I'm back Not sure what's been going on with the forum etc but my back still sore today so still no running. Am going to see how it goes for next few days and maybe see physio or osteopath next week...and keep going slowly...and have got a book out of library on core stability so maybe look into that.

Sorry to hear about your migraines Leece, sounds awful. Hope they get sorted soon.

1 Alexander wouldn't do you any harm either it may well alter your conscious thoughts as to your posture when running.

2 I presume that as you say you are a regular migraine sufferer that you have kept a food diary to examine whether anything there is triggering it. It may sound bizarre, but my partner can eat any other citrus fruit, but oranges. Show her an orange and it's dark room and ice cold compress time.

3 Consider that a combination of foods/drinks and endorphin release may be too much for you something needs to go. Really look at foods and drink. Red wine is a common trigger I suspect you know.

4 At the risk of being insensitive you may like to check out whether the symptoms are more pronounced on or around your "cycle"

5 Whatever you look at, here's a radical solution. Find a small ball bearing ( about 1/8th inch) tape this onto the inner sole of you shoes so that it makes contact just to the centre/rear of the ball of your left foot if you are right handed or vice versa if you are left handed....A wee bit like shiatsu as you run. My partner has used this for her migraines, I stress though, that the ball bearing is kept small and is taped to the insock rather than your foot, as the ball of your feet needs to move around on it to replicate finger massage.

Hope this helps
Bear
Hey there Bear,

I have never been a migraine sufferer up until three months ago, i first thought the headaches was due to an ear infection i had and thought once sorted out the pain in the head would disapear, i was then told by the doctors it was sinus problems so i did all the things he told me to do etc, this never worked agin, by this time i got seriously worried waking with a badhead and going to bed with a bad pain in the head is not normal.

I have had all my bloods checked etc

I then went to the hospital and they told me ..

The migraine i have been diagnosed with is clustered ones, so the pain is one sided on my head behind my left eye and sharp pains in my temple.

reading up on clustered headaches is worrying as they can last for up to 3 months at a time or longer and can be seasonal and they are not dietary triggered either... and i dont really get sensitive to light but behind my eyes ache.

Hospital said it could be hormonal triggered ???
Age triggered ??
Stress triggered

So basically they have no idea....

Seems like every two weeks i visit the doctor i get new medication, costs me a fortune

The best pain relief is Asprin or paracetamols but how long can i take them for ?? already been taking them for three months near enough everyday....

I get good days and bad and today is a good one so far no headache...

So it has affected my well being having these darn things, seems to drain my energy as i said.

BUT i will not give up.

I am willing to try anything to keep them at bay, so i will look at your comments bear thank you so much.

GPs should routinely take everyone's blood pressure with migraines but i know this doesn't always happen...

if you haven't had it taken then make sure you ask your GP to do it...

btw, standing on a ballbearing will not help migraine... that's nonsense...
Hi there,

I have had all my bloods checked and my blood pressure taken at each visit.

So i have no idea, i do get light headed thats why it does not help my running.

Thats why i stick to my pain killers because least i know i wont get side affects apart from it ruining my insides

Leece, I know that cluster headaches are not like normal migraines, so I don't think I can offer much constructive advice about possible triggers (I have an eclectic mix of triggers for my own migraines, ranging from stress through low blood sugar and bright sunlight to rapid temperature changes!) but I wonder if yoga might help relieve them for you - I know it's helped with mine in the past.

When I was doing yoga regularly, I had fewer migraines, although that could have been down to a number of other things, but also I've dragged myself along to a yoga class when I've been feeling thoroughly awful with a migraine and bounced out an hour later with head clear and feeling fabulous.

Worth a go, perhaps, at least?

Lets just say there was a slight clash of personalities that took the thread slightly off-topic, all back to normal now though

If you do goto a physio or something, ask if they'd be able to look at your position while you're running (rather than your feet/lower legs), I just saw your avatar and it may be an optical illusion, but it looks like you are running very 'vertically' as odd as that sounds...

As i say it may be an optical illusion, but it looks as though you're running with your spine almost perfectly vertical, so that your centre of gravity is almost behind your feet, if this is the case it could well be putting additional strain on the back muscles to keep you upright whilst counteracting the forwards propulsion of your running...

It's a very long shot, and certainly not great to try and give a diagnosis of any sort based on one small little picture, in addition to the fact that I have no qualifications of any sort in the field of physiology - But I thought it might be worth mentioning just incase it was a contributing factor.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

[group hug]

I'm off to the GP on Monday morning as I remembered that I have BUPA through work (I forget as I've never had any use for it till now!) but to claim for physio I have to be referred from GP. So hopefully I'll get to a physio next week and start making progress.

It's not just my Race for Life that's going to be affected at this rate - I'm not going to be ready for my next Tae Kwon Do grading either

Gah, why can't our bodies just do what they're told?

GoSlow - sorry to hijack your thread. If I had any useful advice for you I'd freely give it. I hope you manage to find the answer, though.

I'm probably at risk of being ridiculed or even stamped on by our Mods, but here goes...

Oh dear! while appreciate that migraines can really drag you down and I don't want to take away any of the seriousness of the issue, but please don't pretend that all the differences of opinions that have been aired in this thread can be resolved by a 'group hug' urghh!

Erm, guess I missed all the differences of opinions, they must have been the "unnecessary" entries referred to by Richard. Joined this forum cos it was small and friendly and I could keep up with it without logging in every 5 mins but not sure it is the same forum anymore group hug or no group hug.

It's still the same forum; though like most things in life it's subject to periods of manic activity which threaten the status quo. "Normal service" seems to have been restored.

... For now...
