Can anyone tell me the name of this muscle?

My OH is pointing to the muscle that seems to attach to the top of the ankle bone. It's sore to touch.

It's preventing my OH from running and i was wondering if anyone knew the muscle or ways of preventing this injury?

My OH was just getting up to 15km and had been increasing steadily over weeks to get to there. The pain started after the run rather than during.

Any advice is welcome. Thanks!

Are you sure it's a muscle and not the Achilles tendon that's causing the trouble?

If it is muscular it could be the soleus..?

Any huge errors to be blamed on the iPhone's bloody annoying autocorrect!

Not the Achilles it might be the bone above the ankle bone. Where he's pointing.

Regardless of which muscle/bone/tendon it is I'd imagine (no medical expertise implied) it's probably more important to work out why it's hurting? Has he increased distance suddenly? Started doing more uphill stuff, changed shoes? I know I had a problem in almost the same place when I started gunning it (subjectively!) up hill more... treated it as Achilles tendinitis and regular calf raises before and after runs sorted it out.

+1 The same happened to me in the same place when I increased my mileage, it took maybe a month of taking it a bit easier and concentrating on some Achilles exercises for it to be pain free again, but touch wood, its been fine since

IANAP, but the tendons from the peroneus longus and peroneus brevis come down there before curving round the end of the fibula and connecting to your foot. Google for peroneal tendonitis.

Thanks for the replies! I'm suggesting physio as its not getting better. It could be the bone as its sore all around the bone and not just on one muscle.

It is Very unlikely to be 'bone pain'. More likely are suggestions above that it is either connective tissue (ligament / tendon) or muscular. Good luck with the physio as that is the place to go!

Tibialis Posterior I beleive. I've had this. The muscle goes behind and under your ankle bone then down the side and under your foot. It's a foot stabalising muscle.

Actually, no. That goes under the inner ankle. Doh!
