They're Back!!!

I have been blessed again with the dreaded cluster migraines, i started getting them again last saturday but thought it may of been just a one off, but since then i have had a constant migraine effect day and night, nothing shifts the pain, its a sharp constant pain behind my left eye and at the side of my temple it produces a dull effect on one side of my head.

I started getting these headaches out the blue in March this year and went to the doctors and even A&E and was told it was cluster headaches and they could not do nothing for me... resulting in going to the doctors every two weeks with different pills that DID nothing !!!

I was told it could be seasonal and just go away, which it did about May time, now its come back and I wonder how long for now, three or fourt months who knows...

its awful cannot sleep with the pain either... walking is horrible as it makes my head sensitive and as you can guess RUNNING is out the question, it affects your balance and because of the pills constantly it gives you that being on a boat feeling... (if you get what i mean).

I thought maybe they were a one off in march and it would not return but i guess it was not meant to be.

I have again the docs this evening, not sure what for, to be given another dose of medication that does NOTHING !!!

From Sunday doing a half marathon now to this cant even hardly lift my head, I feel my life is about to go down the pan especially my love for the club and running.

Hi Leece - sorry to hear you are having a rough time Is there something that triggers them (red wine or cheese?) Would drinking LOADS of water help.... its not because you were dehydrated after the race was it? I hope they go soon anyway.

Well in the end i got so upset about them everyday i went A&E surely a headache and i mean migraine severe pain in the back of my eye and temple every day is not normal 24 hours a day but she said it was clustered headaches and it may of been my body clock etc that has just started causing them... i was referred to the doctors who said the same, BUT i have Bupa so perhaps i can asked to see a specialist i dont know what else to do, the doctor just asks am i stressed about anything, barely being able to open your eyes because the pain is not stress related... he looked bemused.. so really going back this evening will achieve nothing.

Hi there SB,

Clustered headaches are apparently not food triggered so i have no idea why i started just to get them, all she said was it may be body clock related (whats that supposed to mean) .... i started to get them on the saturday again before the half on the sunday, but dosed myself up on the race and i definately made sure i drank loads.

So i have no clue how i ended up with this horrible thing.

Depressing i know that, affects your life in a big way and its only been 7 days.

Leece, sorry to hear about your problems, I have a mate who suffers badly with Cluster Headaches and I know he has done quite a bit of research etc around them, if you want I can put you in touch if you think it may help.

If its not food triggered - other factors have also been known to cause them. Stress, such as nervous tension or a strenuous lifestyle, can be a trigger. Muscle tension - when your body stores emotional stress leading to poor circulation - can be a factor. Physical and mental fatigue can also trigger a migraine. Ultimately, these kinds of stresses lead to chronic muscular degeneration, pain, exhaustion, fatigue, and negative or "toxic" emotions.

Overall - I would say if you can pin-point what the cause is... if it is stress or muscle tension, then I would thoroughly recommend an Indian Head massage (more for the former) or aromatherapy. If you can get referred by your doctor (you should be able to) - then I would! If you want to do something now to help - if you have an oil burner, try burning some lavender oil... or get one of those lavender wheat cushions and put it in the microwave to warm ... put this over your forehead, relax with it in a warm bath, and maybe put some candles (so not bright)....and some nice soothing music....

Sorry to read this Leece Some great advice being given of things to try - I always think there must be a reason behind things happening, so if you can find out what's causing it, then the remedy should soon follow.

I can appreciate it's not quite that simple though If you can think of anything at all, no matter how trivial, that's seems to tie in with the aches, or anything that's makes them worse or slightly more bearable... then make a note of it!

Sorry to hear about this Leece

If they are saying it's body clock related then do they mean it's linked to daylight hours? Sounds interesting...

In reflexology the area for the head/brain is the big toe.
It's difficult to explain the technique but it's basically moving up the pad of your big toe using a 'pressure slide pressue slide' movement with top of your thumb. Repeat until you have covered the whole of the pad of your big toe and then do the other one.

The pressure should be fairly deep, particularly if you feel something similar to a grain of sand, but it shouldn't hurt.
