Throat again

Some of you might remember about 5 week ago I posted about having strep throat . Since then I have had tonsillitis 3 times . Am currently on my 3rd time and after 4 days of taking the antibiotic it is getting worse

The main reason i think i got it was last week , I felt better and thought I would do at least 20 miles to get back into the swing of things . Unfortunately i got a bad cold on the Monday but though that since it was only in the head I would keep going . So I done 5 x 3 mile runs mon - fri and till Friday felt OK . went to my mates on Friday night to see a new game (Gears 2 for the geeks like me ) and I ended up with a bad temp . so Saturday came around the next day and I had vowed to run to my work which is 7.5 mile . I woke up on Saturday morning with a bit of a cough and totally blocked up but went out anyway because am a stubborn b$£^*rd . really struggled from the off but kept at it but by mile 5 I had too stop . Was ill + the weather had got really bad . It was blowing a gale and poring with rain . i got totally soaked 2 the skin through everything and had 2 walk 2.5 mile which took a while till I finnaly got back 2 civilization . ( to you Paisley runners I had to stop at the start of the glasgow airport ring road then walk to halfords .

Anyway thought I would get the best advice if I gave the full story and since am really really bored this makes sense.

I went to the docs on Monday and got told i had a mild chest infection , tonsillitis , Ear infection and the flu . Have a sick line till Monday . Got Cefalexin for the second time for my tonsillitis since Penicillin didn't work at all with me and got told to lay of any running till Monday . The flu seems to have subsided and the ear is getting better but the throats still bad . what do you think I should do ? . I dont know whether I should wait a another week or get back out again even for just a couple miles a day . My boss has been on the phone today and has changed my woking pattern back to starting at 1pm which makes for a long lie and morning running time but i'm unsure . Any advice would be much appreciated .

also does anyone know of any good home cure's for a bad throat ??? ' Have had a look about the net but they all seem to confict one another .

Cheers for taking the time to reading this

I'm not sure there's much that'll cure a sore throat, except time and antibiotics where required.

I had a sore throat for about 5 weeks back in the summer, and I got through a lot of Strepsils. After those, the best thing for soothing the pain was strongish alcohol, either red wine, or neat spirits (the home-made sloe gin was particularly good). It won't cure you, but it'll make it more bearable while you still have the pain.

As for running, I'd probably wait a few days longer, at least until you're sure the throat's on the mend, especially as you've had a whole lot of stuff at once and probably set yourself back once already. At the very least, I'd avoid running in the wet for a week or so, as it does make it easier for germs to take hold (or re-take hold) if you get cold and wet.

I've always sworn by gargling with heavily salted water.

Snorting the stuff reaches even further if you can bear it, and really cleans out the sinuses of bacteria etc

But don't overdo either!
