My shoes?
Hi.
I'm having a few niggles whilst running. I'm currently doing a run/walk beginners routine but still having some issues with pains!
It's been a couple of hours since I got back from a 2.6 mile, 3mins run, 2 mins walk and my left calf is pretty painful, my right shin was huring slightly whilst running too....I have a history of shin splints!
I'm running in Nike Equalon 2 and notice that they are for over pronating. (so I've just read)
Getting my gait done in the next few days but just wondered...if I don't over pronate and these shoes are designed to help that style, could this cause my problems?
Cheers

Quite possibly, get your gait analysed sooner rather than later. Trust me, it is worth the effort.

You need to rule out equipment before anything else. If that isn't the problem then we can look at other possibilities. It is a process of elimination

How often and how far/long are you run/walking?

4 times per week...this is my second week. 3minutes run, 2 minutes walk. Last week was two mins of each. I then planned next week for 4 mins run, 2 mins walk, then 4 mins run and 1 min walk.....then the full run.
I guess I'm running around 600 meters then walking

If it was me I would rule out the trainers, but also from the description of the pains it may be you are trying to do the run part too fast? Try slowing down and see if the pains subside. I get painful shins if I set off too fast at the beginning of a run.

You don't think it's my shoes?...I'll slow down. last week I was running at 8.30/mile pace, this week is 7.30/mile. That's without intention I should add. It just happened.
You think I may be going too fast too soon? I feel pretty fit though ( for me) which is annoying. I could easily run 3 + miles maybe 5...I won't as I want to build up slowly.
When I say I could easily run a few miles..I mean CV wise, my legs say different

Settle for 10 /mi whilst your are run/walking and see if that improves it. I run at about 8:30 /mi for a 10k after months and couldn't sustain 7:30 /mi for long. So yes this might explain it.
I wouldstill get your gait checked sooner rather than later though, just to be sure.

Ok mate. I'll get my gait done and slow down. I did wonder if running at that pace was too much, too soon.
Trouble is, my achilles feels really sore now. I may have put myself out of action for a week!
