Maybe you should get it checked out before the race just to be on the safe side, do you run outside too?

Yes I do. I run outside on a Thursday with a running club, we do about 4-4.5 miles, and it gets quite bad towards the last mile. Have got some new special running socks, so will have a go this week with them and see.

Ive not joined a running club yet but i am looking into it at the mo, i had a partner at the start but ended up just me. I'm a bit dubious about running with other people i dont know and that are probably a lot faster and more experienced but will give it a go.

The running club that I go to is part of the gym I'm a member of. They are all faster (and younger !) than me, but I go along and they are really good, one of them will always stop back with me, they never leave me on my own, we usually do the 4.5miles in about 45 mins. The social side is good as well, having people to keep you company, makes the distance seem not as long !!

Stotty,
I felt exactly the same when I first joined a club. However everyone was really friendly and someone ran with me at my pace and I've made some really good friends through running. A good club will cater for newbies and more conventional running clubs (i.e. those not affliated to a gym) have runners of ALL ages and abilities. The bonus of being in a club as well is that you get cheaper entries into races. Running with someone faster also can bring on your running.

Stotty,
Take a week off and ice for 15 mins 2 - 3 times a day. When the pain subsides start stretching out your hamstrings.

Well done - 33 mins for your first 5k is excellent. I did mine in 36 mins
