Morning all!!

1 of 12 done! I wasn't 100% happy with my performance but at least I have a starting point now - I finished in 56:09 (56:00 by my watch so I think that 09 was me getting over the line) and I came 37th out of 98 which I know isn't all that shabby but I was hoping to beat my last 10k time (55:43) so that was a teeny bit disappointing!

My next race is a 10 miler on 12th Feb so am going to be working really hard the next few weeks so that I feel race fit for that - to be honest I know that its my eating that is hindering my performance so I'm having a diet overhaul and am going to concentrate on my eating as well as my training - I'm not so fussed about the 10m in Feb more my half marathon in March when I really really want to beat my last time and come in under 2hrs....

Anyway, sorry for my babbling - how are the rest of you getting on - good running weekends?!?!

Lx

Well done! You're only a little over your PB, so I'm sure you can beat it if you do another 10K this year.

Don't forget to take into account factors like weather, the course profile and how you felt on the day etc.

Good luck with the training for the next one!

Well done Laura! Great placing too...I'm sure you will smash your previous 10k time very soon. So, one down and 11 to go. You are doing great!!

Ran 10 miles yesterday morning while my daughter was at nursery. It was ok when I was running 6-7 miles on a Monday, as I had time for a shower afterwards, but yesterday's run took over 90 mins, and I only had 15 mins to calm down and get the use of my legs back before picking her up. I was stinking and my hair was soaked with sweat - not a good look to the yummy Mummys!

I might have to change the day of my long runs as they get longer...

Morning all!

Not been on the forum for a while so thought I'd check in here and say hi!

I did the second of my 12 in 12 on Sunday (Sidcup 10m) and did it in 1:30:50.

I've been REALLY struggling with my running lately, not enjoying it, having to force myself out, cutting training runs etc - I think it was a combination of the freezing weather and snow as well as my diet going a bit haywire (started letting the "crap" back in a bit too frequently...) but having done that 10m race in a decentish time, despite losing my mojo beforehand, I now feel ready to put my all back into it!!

I've been much more concious of what I'm eating for the last few days and had a really good 5 mile run this morning so I feel like my mojo is on its way back - for the Cambridge half in 4 weeks I will be as close to my peak fitnees as I can be and I will run it in under 2hrs - that is my new pledge to myself - WATCH THIS SPACE!!!

hahahaha!!!

How are all you other lovely runny mummies?!?!

Good for you, and very well done on your 2nd in 12, particularly given the lack of mojo you felt beforehand!
I've also been finding my running tough in the last month due to the weather and a recurring back problem, and then about 3 weeks ago my knees gave up on me. It's been really frustrating and I had to take 10 days off, but hopefully I will still be doing my HM this weekend in Brighton. I'd love to run it under 2 hours but running with a friend and all the recent injury problems means I probably won't....but I've booked to do another HM in The Hague 3 weeks later, so I will see if my body feels up to that and if so, will try for a better time then.
When's your next race? Hopefully the weather has improved a bit now and the evenings are getting lighter so it will be more pleasant getting out there!

Sorry, just saw that it's the Cambridge half in March - same day as my City-Pier-City half. Good luck for that too!

Well done Laura, I'd say 90mins for 10 miles is a pretty good time!

I'm training for a half too, on 4th March, but my training has been thwarted by school inset days, half term and recently, snow! 11 miles in the bag last weekend though, so I'm hoping to do 12 this Saturday and then have a wee taper.

I'd love to go under 2 hours too, but just not running fast enough recently. I think I'll be looking at something closer to 2.05. Just praying I don't come down with a cold now, which my kids keep doing !

Hi All,

Only just seen this thread (kept dipping into the VLM thread then feeling like a snail so just went ostrich and avoided the forum altogether!!! ) Nice to find a thread more realistic to my life and running!!! ...though have to say running a 5.30am..eek!!!

I am training for the VLM in 65 days time (EEK!) been a challenge to fit the trainning in as I have 5 year old triplets work 2 part-time jobs, have a firefighter husband who works shifts and have also been cramming in lots of fundraising for my charity.

Hence have aimed to get out 3 times a week but some weeks only managed 2.. also have missed a couple of long runs due to illness and, well family stuff taking over. But I guess, if like me you're not obsessed with a time then it's doable..this will be my one and only marathon..

Can totally relate to the going on the school run before/after a run and looking like a complete horror...one of my boys asked me the other day was I really dropping him off at school in my running stuff as people would think I was funny!!!!

Ran an 18.46m LSR last week, at an av pace of 11.5min miles which i was really chuffed with and also even more chuffed that I felt fine afterwards, had a quick shower, did the school run, took the boys to a hearing test, did thier tea, bath and bed as Nellie (my husband) was working nights! YAY!

Sorry v small things but not really something you can write as an achievement in the VLM thread when they are talking about sub 3hr marathons!!!

Was also so relieved that this run went well as had been really struggling with my long runs in the cold since xmas...I seemed to end up walk/running the last couple of miles and feeling like death after...I had wondered if I would ever make it round the London course..feeling a bit more positive now and also have a step back week this weekend so only having to do 14miles...Can't believe I can now write "only 14miles"!!!!

Hugs

Wow, I am not going to complain or worry about not having the time to train for my first marathon in October after reading what you do! Huge respect.

Jo,

I don't feel I "train" properly..I look at official training schedules and then just close them again..I just do what I can do... I look at your times and they are fantastic

I've only done 2 official 10Ks and 2 half marathons and my PB's are only 64mins and 2hr 15mins resectively so alot slower than you!!

I'm running for a premature baby charity as my boys were born at 28 weeks..that's my motivation and also to achieve and challenge myself..i think that marathon training is as much as a challenge as the event on the day...can imagine come April 23rd my motivation for running will be just about spent!!!!

Hugs

Hi everyone

Don't post here very often but this thread looked very appealing. Mums who run! I took up running a bit under 2 years ago a few months after the birth of my second child and a particularly depressing experience on the bathroom scales. I remember those first few runs and how I thought I would never be able to run a 5k in one go. In some ways getting to that point is still one of my biggest running achievements. Anyway, fast forward a bit and I am signed up and in full on training mode for my first marathon - Brighton - which is just over 6 weeks away. Eek! This Sunday I am running the Essex 20 which is the furthest I will have ever run. I managed 18 miles last week in about 2h42 a pace which deep down I would like to keep up for the marathon (to give me a sub 4hr time - just!)...we'll see.

I have a 5 year old son and a 2 year old daughter and do my midweek runs in the evening once they're in bed and hubby is home, and then a LSR on a Sat am. It's been hard and I'm not sure I would do another marathon to be honest but am focusing now on giving Brighton my best shot. It may well be my last marathon as well as my debut!

I haven't read the whole thread but looks like you're all a friendly bunch...so hello and well done Mummies!

Well done on your race Laura, a fab time! That must have inspired you with the running

I've been struggling with running recently too, my main problem is that I joined the gym and..well, lets just say I am loving the classes. Plus they have a creche at the gym so I love that I get to exercise away from my daughter. BUT I have recently dug the old buggy out again for the long runs, and did manage to get out last week with Marion. I have two half marathons approcaching and one of them is a hilly one.

Like you I think the weather has been very off putting. I had a few slides on the ice which knocked my confidence a fair bit.

Good on your for the healthy eating! I do need to take a leaf out of your book and do that myself, I'm a terrible sugar junkie.

So far I've done one race this year, the Wiltshire Ten Mile Race and I PB'd at 1:25. I have a 10k tomorrow (Devizes) but I doubt there will be a PB as I have a stinking cold

Nice to see some new mums here too! xxx

Meg, what you're doing is amazing, getting out for training is hard work, especially in the evenings when if you're anything like me, all you want to do is lie on the sofa! And I imagine it takes up a lot of time from being with your kids, that's something I am not looking forward to when I start training for my first marathon which is in October. It's great that you're running for charity, that must really motivate you, especially one that has affected you personally. Like you, I'm not sure that I will want to carry on and do more full marathons after my first, but I am excited about the experience and I hope to run for a charity too.
Your times sound great, I would be over the moon thinking about a sub 4hr time! Best of luck with your training x
PS I did the Brighton half marathon a couple of weeks ago, it was brilliant I think the full one is a lot hillier though, not sure I would like that!
