Running Partner
Hi there,
Yeah! after 9 months hard slog I did it!! The great North Run!!! Unfortunately I trained with my husband and he has a naturally faster running pace then me and kept to his word and did the race with me but it didn't do his knees any favours by running slowly. I really want to carry on running and improve my times and am looking for a running partner in the Blyth / Cramlington area who has a similar pace to me , currently between 11:30 and 12:00 minute miles, to go training with. I have thrown the gauntlet down and said I will beat him next year so I need to start now. Let me know if you are interested and we can get in touch via e-mail.

Sorry, I am down south. But just wanted to say welcome, congrats on finishing the GNR and how nice of Mr sarsar to support you. Good luck with finding someone or is there a local club you could run with?

I know your pain, Sarsar! My husband and I just did a half mara, but he has a naturally faster race pace, and is a lot more determined/competitive than me! I didn't expect him to run with me, as I was doing my own race, in my own zone... although we did train together (but he was always just ahead of me!) I found joining a club really helpful as there are a lot of members so a lot of different paces - and its great as we can both socialise with the group. I know its annoying, especially when you think its something you can 'do together' - but when you are doing a race, I think you both have to do your own thing... I know I would ache a hell of a lot more today (which is saying something) if I had kept up with his sub-2 hour pace!

I'd love a running partner, though my bloke wont come out with me and I think I might be a little slow for the local running club!

No, feeling sorry for myself as the only local club is full of professionals and I'm worried about making an ass of myself! Guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and go out training on my own!!

Hi Sarsar - I have definitely been in that boat, I think most runners joining clubs have! How have you come to the conclusiong they are 'all professionals'.... I would at least try, as the worse that happens is you cannot keep up, but Im sure they (if they are a good club) will help you along. Whats the worse that can happen?! i would at least give it a go....

Think what all those professionals will be able to teach you about technique, nutrition etc
Give it a go. If you don't get on with a club you can go back to as you are having lost nothing.

If I was you I would phone the club contact number and just have a chat. Tell them about your running, and what you need.. ie company to run with etc. You'll probably be surprised and that they are really accomodating to new members.
Also, you can generally run a few times with a club before deciding whether to join.
You've got nothing to lose by calling them... go on go on go on

I'd agree with Trin 100%... better than turning up and worrying - call them and find out what sort of groups they have, what pace the groups train at etc... I know my club caters for pretty much all abilities, from 4/5min milers to 12/13min milers and beyond!
EDIT: when I say 'my club' I mean the one I attend... I don't run the place.... yet MUHAHAHAHA!

Thank you , I'll give them a call, I'm still living in hope of a 6ft washboard stomached greek god offering to take me under his wing and put me though my paces ( is it hot in here?) (sigh) a girl can but dream! Not sure what hubby would make of that though!

Thats absolutely nothing wrong with that.... we are not all as lucky as Trin(!)
I often daydream that Sawyer from Lost is going to give me personal tuition
