Great work Sam, 21st place is amazing! I cannot begin to even imagine what running 100 miles in a single day feels like - other than awful!?

There was definitely moments of awful, middle of the night with everything cramping, but overall it wasn't that bad (though I might not have said that if you had asked me sunday afternoon ). I have no idea how the front runners got round so quick, the winner was under 15 hours, which is just crazy!
I think it was 297 people lined up to start, and only 209 crossed the finishing line.

Amaxzing Sam.

My wife has been unwell for a couple of weeks resulting in a few nights in hospital. Between careing for her and the baby ive had no time to run. I am shattered, getting very little sleeep.

5 weeks until marathon.

Thanks guys, i'm feeling it now. Tried a couple of gentle 10km runs last week and my left knee complained rather a lot. Going to rest up this week and hopefully get out again at the weekend. I know at least one of the guys from the 100 miler is doing a 50 miler this coming weekend, absolute nutters!

@Adi, sorry to hear about your wife, I hope she recovers soon.

So for those that have already done their spring marathons, whats on the cards for the rest of the year? I wanted to get another race in before the summer, but not sure I will now. I've booked for the UTML 112km race in september, so the summer will be focusing on that.

I'm running in the Birmingham International Marathon in October this year, so I've been keeping an eye on this thread for some time for inspiration.

First, I'll complete two local half-marathons, Bosworth on the 15th May and Harborough in June. I'm aiming to PB this year (1:35:32 to beat) and in reasonable shape. I ran a PB of 43:51 in the Birmingham 10k recently but not sure if my endurance speed is up to the half-marathon task yet.

But, I'll give those two a go, and unless I enter anything else I'll focus on the marathon, so will be posting progress through the summer.

No plans for anything long this year. I'll be doing a few halfs but will mainly be focussing on getting my 5k and 10k time down. I quite fancy doing two marathons in 2018 though - London and Dublin. Can't do Dublin this year as the training would be interrupted by a two week hiking trip.

Sorry to hear about your wife Adrian, hope she's ok. Take is easy Sam, think you've earned yourself some rest after that last race!!

Like Claire I'm having a break from marathons for the rest of this year. I've got a few 5K and 10K races over the next few months, then after a 140K bike ride in July my focus will be on the Oxford Half and Great South Run (10 mile race).

I had some injury concerns last week so didn't run for 5 days after having to drop out of a race/fun run on bank holiday Monday. Running on Saturday was OK though so I think I dodged that one. Next time I'll take the 5 days off right after the marathon

On Sunday I woke up feeling like running and there was a fairly local 10 mile race on that had entries on the day, so I went and did that It was very hilly and I had nothing left at the end. I could have run it better but I'm fairly happy with how it went considering it was on a whim with some lingering injury anxiety and no plan.

Training for the next marathon (September 10th) starts this week so I'll ease back into it slowly. Not sure how frequently I'll post progress, will see.

Same here, all a bit of a struggle just to get under 7min miling at moment. One of the annoying parts of doing a marathon is the time afterwards, with the taper and the post marathon recovery it seems you/we lose a all the fitness we gained. Hopefully its just temporary and will resurface once we get back into things. The large amounts of chocolate and Cornish pasties probably haven't helped either in my case

2017 Marathon Training thread

I'm the same, didn't get below HM PB pace for my 3 mile tempo this morning! I'm running half the mileage I was doing a few months ago, but everything feels harder!! I do find it a bit demotivating, but I know I was exactly the same after Frankfurt. Just need to remind myself of that, and keep plugging away, and hopefully I'll be back on form soon! It does come back eventually. I hope...

1:38:15 for Bosworth half. Not too bad, I'd hoped to be nearer my PB of 1:35 (and I've done 1:36 on this course) but I'm not too disappointed.

I need to decide on whether to run another local half marathon in June in Market Harborough, but other than that I'm entering to to full marathon training!

My speed appears to be returning. After last week's horror, I ran a PB at this evening's club Summer Cup race. It's a 2.5 mile handicap race. I ran 6:29 per mile, so nearly back to the standard I was at when I ran that 20:21 5k. So much better than 6:38 for 2 miles last week.
