For socks, I have the cheapest version Decathlon brand (Kalenji). Does the trick perfectly.

Trainers are far too personal to just go by recommendations from other people as far as I'm concerned. What fits for me (Brooks, btw) could very well be extremely crappy for you.

Bought some 1000mile ultimate performance socks. Had some before but my OH shrunk them in the wash so bought some xl size UK 12-14, see how long they last.
Need to go and buy trainers this weekend or next........

I got a few pairs of cheap cotton sports socks from that well known sports shop, Primark. Not somewhere I shop in normally, but they were cheap and cheerful and I haven't had any problems with them.

I completely agree with Bas about the trainers being a personal thing. My Brooks Addiction 8's arrived today (waiting for them after a gait fitting). Can't wait to get out there again tomorrow.

I've just bought a few pairs of More Mile 'London' ones, they feel nice and comfy, ran 7.6 miles in them today and they were spot on.
Not sure how they'd fare on longer runs though.
Trainers; It's horses for courses really but make sure they're the correct ones for your gait.

I have some Saucony Grid trainers that I have probably only done 200 miles in so will probably use them for the marathon but need another pair to alternate with. I did my ankle in badly over a year ago so need to get my gait checked I think as I am getting some niggles in the knee and ankle of that leg. Good excuse to go to the runing shop when I can get there.
Happy Sunday runs for tomorrow to all.

I use Hilly socks. Pretty good. My trainers are a mix of addidas Nike and Asics. Just whatever trainers you wear on long runs should be fine!

which socks? unimportant unless you need support or cushioning for the type of foot you have ...

If you do high mileage it might matter more though....

Do you mean Body Glide? I've spoken to a couple of people who use it and apparently its quite good - just like vaseline apparently, but doesn't stain your top. Might give it a try too.

I've used it, it's pretty good for preventing chafe.

Although only up to 15 miles, not sure how much difference that makes.

Injinjis for me! They are toe socks (take a bit of getting used to), but they completely stop blisters forming inbetween your toes on longer hot runs!
