Losing pace on a marathon

What happens if you see that one of your splits has dropped below your avg. pace target during a marathon?

Do you speed up for the next mile or two to make up time or just make a neb note of the deficit & try to make it up over the rest of the race?

It would depend on how much time was lost and how far into the race it was.
A little bit down in the early miles can be pulled back slowly over the rest of the race, but ther is less chance to pull back a larger defecit late in the race.
