New York Marathon on Sunday

I read in Runners World today that they're televising the New York Marathon on Sunday on Sky Sports - I shall be glued to the telly all afternoon.

Looking forward to seeing how Lance Armstrong does.

Should be interesting to watch... I wonder if there is any coverage on the BBC?

Sadly, don't have Sky Sports so wont be able to watch. Has anyone read about Lance Armstrong's build-up for New York? If so, how seriously is he taking it? I suspect he'll give it 110% as he always does, but is he planning for a really fast time, or maybe giving it his best for a Cancer charity? Lots of good runners are/were also cyclists. I reckon he'll easily finish in the top 3%.
Cheers!

My daughter is just back from New York...she is coming 20 and thinks i'm barking mad for all this running melarky but said she was in Central Park when they were holding a race of some sort...she said she has totally changed her views on running and has felt inspired to maybe take up this 'so called hobbie of mine'!!!! ha ha....she was inspired by, as she says, all the different shapes, sizes and ages of people who were entering the race. 'Miracles do sometimes happen'!!!!!!

Dont have Sky either..bo ho....wish I did, I would love to watch the marathon.

I read somewhere that lance's coach expected him to do sub 2:30, that may be a bit optimistic considering he ain't got running legs.

I also read that his V02 max suggested him capable of 2:06!!!!!

I watched this on Sky and they showed lots of Lance in the race. He ran with lots of support (who were also running for his Foundation) and experienced marathoners.

His time was a couple of minutes under 3 hours but he said that if he wasn't running with his support it would have been more like 3.5 hours.

He called the race "the hardest physical thing I have ever done" — even more grueling than my worst days on the Tour". I was really surprised about this as he has an amazing Vo2 max. At the end of the day it's still an aerobic exercise just like cycling.

I saw a picture of his finishing - more like hobbling really but he did really well I think for his first marathon.

Lances comments really highlight how tough it is to run a marathon if you do not have many, many miles under your belt.

You can be sure if he had specialised in marathon running for the past ten years he would not have found it anywhere near as difficult.

All sports are unique and jumping from one to the other will always be tough, no matter who you are!

Anyway, great effort from Lance and probably lots of money raised

That's very true.
You have to be sport specific fit to do well at a specific sport.
