Smile hi

Hi Running mad people

I'm new to this site and finding it hard to get use to, So bare with me.

My name Suzanne and I'm Based in Kent. Running was very much my bible about a year ago, I have now lost my mo Jo and finding it really hard to get back into running, I lost it because I didnt find it fun any more ,when people expected me to keep running good times and was trying to push me more of which I couldn 't do . I then started to make excuses up of why I couldnt run. Im now at the stage where I can fun but not full fitness, Im doing Paris Marathon and really looking forward ,It my first Marathon and just want to get round in a nice pace and enjoy the views , but again I'm Getting the same sort of pressure. Im very much of a free Sprite , I dont talk about milage and times alot this is something thats starting to get to me. I regular take part in time trail and dont time it. each week my times get better. I just run at 100% of which i can give it on the day and see at the end.

On a normal run I would get someone I know or my self to drive to a location either on the way to shopping and run back from there, This could range from 5miles to 20 miles. This way the route is never boring and I have to make it home.

Is there any one out there that prefer to train on there own , or is it just me,

Hi Suzanne

I prefer to train on my own for over 90% of the time but when working hard or running long, sometimes company helps.
I guess that I run with company about 2 or 3 times a year, on average... I would be happy to increase that to 2 or 3 times a month...

Hi Suzanne and welcome!

I prefer to run on my own as well, and I guess there's more people like that here. For me it's a way to organise thoughts and clear the mind, next to the fitness thing of course. Much easier when you're alone.

Plus you're a winner in your own personal race everytime! Doesn't get much better than that!

Yes, you end up last as well, I know.. Glass is half full, remember..

Hi Suzanne, welcome to RF.

I do 90% of running on my own. I also get dropped miles from home too, that way you know as you said, you have to get home.

Hi Suzanne and welcome to runnersforum!
I love running on my own most of the time but also run with a group once a week which I love as well. You just need to do what suits you really. I understand exactly what you mean about pressure and not wanting to talk about times etc - when I was doing my last marathon one of the worst things was to have people keep asking me what time I thought I was going to do. To quote Sebastian Coe though,: "All pressure is self-inflicted. It's what you make of it or how you let it rub off on you". I only came across this quote recently as someone on this forum has it in their signature but its so true, if a little bit difficult to actually take on board.
Hope you find your mojo again soon and best of luck with the marathon - look forward to hearing how you get on - no pressure though don't tell us your time if you don't want to - would just be good to know if you enjoyed it or not.

Hi. I agree, it is more the organise bit, I finish work most days at 3 oclock and people I run with dont finish until late and want to run at 7, when for me Il rather run straight away and then relax at home. but feel like Im sitting around for ages waiting. I think I will have to rethink Im training and do what suits me. I tend to run harder on my own and when together I chat more lol I have learnt alot frm this site already, so thanks for that.

Most people think Im mad for doing that, so that makes you mad too But its true it really works. I speak to people about it all the time, and they thinks its a weird way of training, but in facted the route is different every time so you never get bored.

Il let you know of any other training tips if I come across more.
