I certainly "enjoyed" the day, in a masochistic sense, only my second race, seemed a hell of a lot harder than the last one for some reason (presumably because last time all I had to do was finish and not worry about times!).

Was nowhere near a sub 50, crawled in at 54:36 - slower than I've managed in training but nonetheless a race PB by 4 minutes ish and managed sub 55 at least which was initially my target for Sheffield in September! - I don't think I'm one of those people who go faster in races by the looks of it. I think I ended up starting too near the front so just got overtaken a lot, which did kind of play tricks on my mind and I thought I would blow up at some points and have to stop

Still, it only took 5 minutes to get my breath back before I thought, when's the next one then

You did really well Rob. I can so relate to what you have just said though. Even though my time wasn't much better than my other. In the 10k I did the other week there was only about 150 people running so obviously I was at the back and it makes you feel lousy when they all fly past you. With this one I kept picking people off and slowly overtake them it made me feel a whole lot better.

Anyway I'm going to start doing some speed work now and see if that helps, and I may just enter that Birchwood 10k in August.

BTW, well done to everyone else. When I finished I went and clapped all the other runners as they came into the stadium, then went to the finish line and clapped the 1hr 25 plus runners in, brought a little lump to my throat. Had to scarper when it started pouring down though!

That picking off thing was what made my first race so enjoyable - then again, there were just so many people who had obiously not trained very much, it was a dubious success to overtake them!

Worse one today was when a guy who must have been 30 years older than me drew level, then blew me away

I think I may be tied up on the day of the Birchwood, but am considering the Moonraker one now on July 27th...

Well done to you Dimple - am glad you enjoyed this one more, keep working at it and I will too and we'll see what happens next time

But is it a biggy? Reckon the more that race means I won't come last see! It makes me enjoy it more. I know that sounds awful, but it feels horrible when you're right at the back.
