Dave - your welcome!

Or would it be a case of it takes you ages to write something and them the site has timed you out?

Skipping breakfast is never a good idea as your metabolism will quickly go into a decline.
Porridge oats work great for me and keep me full for a few hours.

Breakfast

Anyone got advice on breakfast. I get up at 6am and go running at 6.30am. As I am only on third week am still following run/walk program, but not sure if I should eat something before going out. At the moment I am just having a cup of coffee and then having porridge when I get back after my shower. Is this the right thing to do? and when I start running more what should I do then? I prefer going in the morning, as once I get home from being in work all day find it hard to get motivated Any advice welcome...Thanks

Personally, I don't eat anything when I do my morning runs. Theoretically, you should still be able to rely on the energy gained from your evening meal from the day before, when running in the morning.
As for what you should actually eat, I'm afraid that I'm a very bad example on that score(Attachment 110), so I'll leave that advice to the other forum members who eat far more healthily than I do.

Thanks for that Pedestrian, I am glad of any advice and to know that it is okay to run first thing without having to eat first has put my mind at rest

Don't take my methods as being "set in stone." It's a personal thing, Karen. I've been running for a long time, and so I've been able to learn a lot about what does and what doesn't work for me.
Some people need to have something light before they go out; but as I said, I don't. I have to have at least two hours between eating and running, which isn't very practical when you're trying to get out as early as possible.
If you've been OK with your pre-run coffee, then just carry on with that. Maybe later when you're running further/using more energy, you may find that you need something more substantial. But there's no reason why your food intake from the day before shouldn't be adequate.

Don't go home :P I go on my short runs after work FROM work to somewhere and then back again, pick my stuff up and then walk home... or go on the bus all stinky :P Also if I'm going in to the gym I don't bother going home. I just know that after a loooong hard day at work if I went home first and then had to make the effort to get back out to the gym... it just wouldn't happen. Of course my lifestyle is quite flexible, I have only my boyfriend to feed, and I'm sure that he wouldn't die if I left it a couple hours later than usual, so I dunno how that would work for you, but if you can, give that a go. Equally if your work has showers and is anywhere near a decent running route, you could try having a quick run in your lunch break.

If I do early morning runs I won't have breafast either, if you have eaten well the night before like pedestrian says you should manage on the energy in your body, providing that is you are not going out and doing some crazy distance.

I actually manage long Sunday morning runs (90min/2 hours) on nothing more than a cup of de-caf coffee... Attachment 153
