Fantastic tranformations guys. What's great about keeping old photos is that they'll keep reminding us that we can't go back to what we used to look like!
I took up running this Jaunary and have progressed really well. I've shifted around 3 stones in total and I am really enjoying the journey ahead!

For me it was just after my son was born, I took a look at a picture of myself and suddenly realised that I was 26 and nearly as many stones! I wanted to be able to run around with my kids still when im 40 but if I was 40 stone I think I may have been dead!
I gave up smoking and joined the local Gym. after initial sucess in sheadding around 4 stone I plateau'd for about a year. I wasnst about to go backwards. I donned a pair of old shoes and hit the asphalt! the rest as they say is history....
Im proud to of done it for my kids but ultimatley it was for me. Im a differant person now in every respect and I love it!
....oh and I saw a program once about a man having to have an extra extra large coffin made, thought, thats not happening to me!

I have just read this thread and it brought tears to my eyes!!! wow!!!!
I thought I was the only one who had been struggling, especially you Richard, I always thought of you as being super sporty and skinny all the time.
As a confession, the moment for change for me was my wife and I have been trying for a baby for 4 years, no luck. We went to have IVF and spent all our money with no joy. The doctor told me that there was very little chance of us conceiving at my weight and physical size. Then on holiday this year, out of the blue while driving my wife asked, how could I carry on eating like I do knowing the pain the IVF put her through and that was it, it was like being hit by a train. So that was it and hopefully our chances have improved considerably????
I was 24st 4lb Aug 2009, so more than 3 1/2 st off later and much sportier things are going well, I hope to break under 20st for the first time in 10 years by the end of November, when I do I'll pop a pic on.
Here a couple of pics of me last year at about 23 1/2 st. I have one of me this year at 24st which I'll post later.
The one of me running was Billericay 10k 2008, I'd lost a bit but still a big chap.
Please don't cringe too much.

Brilliant effort everyone. Made me have a look back over the last year or so. Here are the results. First one is the Edinburgh Marathon May 2008 @ apround 14.5 stone. Second is a little under a year later at the Wedgenock 10K. Probably te first time I've been 12 stone something since I was a teenager!
Keep up the good work. You've inspired me to eat better and run further.

I am quite curious about what motivated you all to start losing so much weight. Is it there a moment when you thought : that's enough I have to do something about it ? Had you always intended to lose weight but not felt strong enough up to that point ? Did you want to look good for special occasion ? Or did you simply decide to lead a healthier lifestyle and the weightloss just happened as a result ?
I am curious because I put on weight when I stopped smoking few years back and I had decided not to fight it until I was confident I wouldn't start smoking again. When that moment came I realised how much discipline and consistancy was required to lose the weight and not relapse and was almost ready to accept the extra weight. Luckily once I started enjoying physical activities my weight started improving regularly but it made me realize how difficult it must be to diet for months .

The scary thing was I was 18 stone when I got married and only made the effort after. The turning point for me was when I got a job as a rep and realised my job would involve 6 hours a day sat in the car and the rest sat talking to folk. My dad was a rep and he is massive. I did not want to be my fathers son.

That's what got me into all the obsessive stomach exercise!

Don't get carried away, it has only been the one marathon and it nearly finished me
