I'm certainly not an international athlete (unfortunately ). I will endeavour to try out your recipe post run drink at some point as it does sound rather healthy... what quantities of fruit juice do you mix with water to replicate the man-made sports drinks during runs?

It seems everything can cause cancer nowadays

Is this still ok to use for running?

I have also seen them Zymm tablets, which are much the same but in tablet form.

Would be interested to find out what others are using.

The Minx
I buy a tub of SIS Electrolyte / Go in the summer when it's hot to replace the salts I've sweated out from the heat. The Citrus one's OK but the berry flavoured one is rancid!

I go for 1/2 juice 1/2 water, if it's hot then I go down to 1/3 juice to 2/3 water. Because the absorbtion rates differe with temperature.

If it's really hot then having a nuun tablet in there is great too. Also if you leave the top on your sports drink then it goes fizzy which is cool. Nuun triberry and apple juice tastes awsome!

Tast fruit gels

Quote:
Has anyone found a energy gel which actually tastes like the fruit mentioned on the front of the pack?? :
I have mentioned it here before, i use Hammer products and their banana gel is very good, as is their apple and cinammon, the other product i use is HEED (energy/electrolyte drink) its not too sweet. They seem to err on the side of natural sweetness rather than oversweet and because of this the HEED can seem insipid, but i would rather drink something that is slightly on the tasteless side but will not attack the back of my throat or stomach lining over 3-4 hours etc. they are advertising with a link banner on www.tritalk.co.uk and have several forum threads on the site all leading to www.hammernutritionuk.co.uk

Katten hope this helps

Thanks!

CarbBoom are... decent... as well, they use fruit flavour from actual fruit. I can get by with the artificial flavours, it's just a preference

Mmmm, nesquik, nowt but sugar and milk... purrrrfect for a post-run pick-me-up. Well maybe not perfect, but it works for me, it's actually a load of soot, but I was looking at the ingredients and comparing it to that nourishment stuff that my boyf drinks, and given that in general I tend to just eat well instead of supplement well, I thought it's pretty much as good for my use, all it is is sugar and is fortified with B vitamins with some "natural" flavouring.

Sports drinks with complex carbohydrates are better than ones with simple sugars. Complex carbs will not upset your stomach and simple sugars can cause you to bonk during long workouts

Why did no-one tell me this before?!? Where can I get some of these simple sugars??

I'm quite tempted to make a bottle of TORunner's fruit concoction next time i have some spare time before a long run.

I run with Gatorade in my Camelbak when I do anything more than 12km. Upto that it's an old powerade bottl with gatorade in it... excellent stuff is that!
