Way too much hating on carbs going on. Aren't we athletes?
People are told to hate x and love y, or hate y and love x. It seems to be all or nothing; no-low carbs and high fat/protein, or high carbs and low protein/fat. Why can't people just follow a balanced diet, consistently and accept that body transformation takes longer than a couple of weeks. I know that we live in an instant gratification society, but the body is still the same as it was 1,000 years ago. Eat a balanced diet, fruits, veggies, oats, eggs, lean meats, steaks, some bread, some rice, a little bad stuff etc.etc., exercise, be patient and see the results. If you need to lose a little weight, drop cals by 10-15%, see how you feel, if you need to gain weight, add 10-15% and see how it affects you.

PS: this isn't aimed at anyone in this thread, just the general "omg i need to lose 2 stone in a week to get into my bridesmaid dress" attitude.

Sorry Siobhan. After my post above, I realized you said in the original post that it was just white carbs you were trying to steer clear of

Shivles only asked where to go out for a low carb meal and got an arguement about low carb v high carb. Is low carb direting such anathema that a simple question becomes an excuse for people to air their preduces?

You can't use the word anathema and spell prejudice incorrectly... it's a rule!

How about a veggie option. I had quorn chilli with brown rice at Weatherspoons last night. Cheap and cheerful, it was a good value and in the under 700 calories range. I've also had their spinach and chickpea curry before.

Been away from the uk for some time now. I have to say its good to read that. Healthy option like that can be found in a chain pub. Maybe pockets of the general population is becoming more enlightened about what they shove in their gobs?

I think there have always been 'pockets of the general population' who are enlightened about what they eat. The problem is that very few restaurants cater for them. I was reading a Weatherspoons menu a couple of weeks ago at the airport and there were a few options that looked to be healthier than burger and chips though, so fair play to them.

The Quorn chilli is clearly a token vegetarian option, and personally I wouldn't consider Quorn to be a particularly 'healthy option'. For me, a healthy choice is one with as little processing as possible and I don't believe that Quorn really satisfies that criteria does it?

From Wikipedia:

"Quorn is made from the soil mould Fusarium venenatum strain PTA-2684 (previously misidentified as the parasitic mould Fusarium graminearum [23]). The fungus is grown in continually oxygenated water in large, otherwise sterile fermentation tanks. Glucose is added as a food for the fungus, as are vitamins and minerals to improve the food value of the product. The resulting mycoprotein is then extracted and heat-treated to remove excess levels of RNA."

Quorn is man-made fake-meat and fills a gap in the market for vegetarians who still want to eat meat-like products. It is cleverly marketed as being some kind of mushroom product, which it's not really.

The wholewheat pasta superfood salad in weatherspoons looks good, I was also pleased to see healthier options on the new menu. I had to try the brunch burger though, it's epic haha

If anyone is wondering, we went to La Tasca in the end and it was really good

Wagamamas?

Stir fry? Burgers with salad/veg instead of roll and chips.
