Local rules allow us to delay v day for 24 hours. We pick a small bunch of snowdrops from the garden (free) and spend a bit of cash on a nicer than usual bottle of wine. To top it all off, this year my boys did the dishes.

As good as it gets.

Sorry to resurrect the Valentines thread but I had to update you on the car scenario...

Ex did indeed fit new wipers at the weekend, so I was locked and loaded when I took my car back to the garage today for the other work and MOT retest.

I started off very calmly, pointing out my annoyance that I had brought the car in with working wipers but took it home in an unroadworthy state with what was left of the wipers (little strips of rubber) hanging over the windscreen, which I didn't see until I was half way home... so good thing it wasn't raining!

The 'mechanics' then started to argue with me (very bad mistake!) and practically accused me of lying (even worse mistake!), stating that they only test the wipers with the washer and only inspect them...they never pull them apart.

We ended up having an almighty row in the garage reception , they insisting that they were in the right and me insisting that they should have at the very least informed me that the wipers were in a much worse condition than when I had brought the car in.

So with that I left the car and had a very brisk angry walk home.

About 15 minutes later I got a phone call from the garage... apologising! He couldn't apologise enough, saying that he had spoken with the 'lad' that had worked on my car the previous week and he'd admitted using the wipers without the washer...so the friction on the dry windscreen caused the weakened wiper blades to disintegrate. But he also didn't tell anyone about it, so when I collected my car no one knew to inform me about the problem. I got the impression that the lad concerned had had a talking to as well.

Then he said... as a gesture of good will he wasn't going to charge me for the work that they'd done on my car today to get it through it's MOT!!! So there are some garage people that are actually human, admit their mistakes and are not just out to rip us off.

That not only restored my faith in human nature but was also a relief because I don't have the hassle of finding another convenient garage to look after my car when it's sick.
