Question about 'special drinks in races'

It's Megs race on Sunday, and as some of you have ran races before i just wanted to ask about the special drinks tables. He is going to take 02 bottles of lucozade with him (labelled with his number) but he is panicing about how long it will take for him to find his bottle at the stations, (he knows he already is going to be farely slow, and doesnt want to add extra time on bless him) and also if soemone else takes it, (not in a mean way) cos i said some runners may just run past and just grab any rather than waste time looking for their own bottle. can those of you who take your own special drinks tell me how this works please, do runners waste time looking for their own or just grab any, at least then he can be prepared of what to do,. Does this make sense lol

many thanks

Dawn

Morning Telamdee, I did not even realise that you could take a 'special' drink and then leave it at the drinks station. (have to look into this !! )

I have forgotten how long a distance he is racing, but on certain races, the drink stations alternate between water and Lucozade so he might !?! not actually need to give them his drinks at all, especially if he necks one before the race starts.

Telmedee I'm sure he will be fine - in races I've never had a special drink but I've always been handed a drink I've never grabbed one and he will hardly lose any time - I often stop for a short break whilst I have my drink.

Wish him luck and post his results

Granty - Meg is doing the Sheffield Half.

thanks everyone, on the bumf (is that a a word) that they sent they said you can take any special energy drinks so long as they are sealed and labelled with race number on, apparetnly at the drinks stations they have the water tables (they are supplying water only) and then next to it a special drinks tables. The drinks have to be handed in at 08:30am (the race starts at 09:30am) so they can check they are all sealed etc.

In this marathon I have run in Poland, they had runners handing in the drinks two hours before.
Then, during the race (probably because there weren't that many in the marathon - just over 200), they had a guy some 50 metres before the drinks station shouting the numbers of the runners and the people at the station would see if there was a bottle for them and hand it
