Writing posts just for the sake of upping personal totals?
Is there a risk of alienating new or potential members by giving the impression of a clique-led forum?
Just a thought.

I wouldn't go that far Being in the off-topic section I can't see a problem with people posting general natter, whatever it's related to - If I was posting purely to up my post count do you not think i'd have got bore a very long time ago?

I'd say this forum was far from cliquey! I've not been a member a long time myself and I feel very welcome (and always have). I'd like to think I get along with everyone pretty well and always take the time to welcome new members - I offer my advice and opinions wherever I can and try to give encouragement to those who want/need it.

Happy days people!

...Hmm...When nearly every thread leads to a personal "conversation" between the "top" half-dozen-or-so posters? Follow the threads, man. Where do they go?

Ha!
At the rate you're posting you'll get to 450 before me

pedestrian - For me this "number of posts thing" is just a curiosity and I am definitely not clique-led. I have participated in a forum (Portuguese) where people even argued a lot about the that - and why did the other post, was it relevant, etc... (and, of course, as they argued they posted more hehehe)
I have too many days without internet access (probably will be without it for more than 3 weeks in January) to even hope to get to 1000 next year...

But I would still like to beat Richard to 500

I don't think we're cliquey. The only person we're not open and very friendly with is that guy who keeps trying to sell us cheap Prada running gear, and even he keeps coming back

Anyway, Rich's in the lead, but I'm hoping my secret strategy of waiting til the last 50 posts then putting on a sprint finish will be a sure-fire winner Negative split time!!
