My Mouse Scroller Button...

Very off topic... but I'm sure I remember picking up here n there that we have a few 'in house' computer/IT specialists!

Anyways, my mouse has a scroller between the two mouse buttons, as is the norm. It scrolls up and down and can be depressed... all of which I understand the function of.

Can anyone answer why the scroller button can also be click to the left and clicked to the right? I thought it might be something to do with scrolling sideways on webpages (as you scroll up and down) but no joy.

To be honest I'm baffled!

I've never seen a scroll button that you can click left and right, I'm sure you are just hearing the sound of it as they are normally a 'loose fit'. You can obviously click the wheel, used for rapidly scrolling down pages but not left or right clicks.

i have one at home that does..... and it does as ye say.

in the mouse setup is there a test that shows that feature? or assigns actions to it?
if so maybe its not set right.... if not maybe you need some different drivers.

lol I suppose loading the proper drivers would be a good start anyways! I was just using the generic windows ones, seeing as it had picked up the two buttons on the side of the mouse (for quickly browsing 'forward' and 'back' in IE) I assumed it'd pick up t'others.

It's a little crazy though, how many buttons do you need on a mouse?!

Richard, if your scroller is depressed, I think you should give it some time off... maybe take it out for a few drinks and a meal... talk things over... let it get things off its, er, chest.
Or failing that, give it the Samaritans' phone number. Attachment 49

I had thought that when I wrote it, but doesn't 'depressed' sound better than 'pressed' though

... You'd actually thought of introducing your scroller to the world of strong drink?!
