Red face Champix - New Stop Smoking Method

Hi

I am currently a smoker (I know booo booooo, antisocial person that I am)

I have been prescribed Champix which is the new stop smoking drug.

I have heard good things about it, just wondered if anyone else has tried it or heard of anyone who has had success with it?

I understand you have to 'want' to quit the 'evil weed' as nothing will work if you don't want to stop.

You have to take them for at least 7 days (whilst still smoking) and quit between day 8 - 14 of taking the tablets.

It works by reducing your craving for a cigarette and by reducing the effects that you feel if you do not have one. You set a date to stop smoking, and start taking Champix tablets one or two weeks before this date. Treatment normally lasts for 12 weeks.

Would welcome any comments

Never tried it, but I was a smoker. When I saw that my running was improving I felt torn between the two, but I wouldn't push as hard if I had been smoking, so in the end the running won and I didn't find it very hard to stop either.

Fingers crossed this may work for you too, but any attempt at stopping is always a good one, good luck.

Minxie. After smoking for nearly 25 years I stopped in 2005 with the help of nicotine patches.

I think the patches helped me for a few weeks.(I only used them for a month),but I am convinced that the fact that I started to run at the same time was the reason I have managed to stay away from the fags since.

I still get the odd craving when I feel like I could smoke for England, but it`s less and less these days and they don`t last as long.

Good luck with it. I`m sure you will succeed.

Keep us informed of hoe you are coping.

Just remember.never give up giving up.

Dave.

Same here, tried patches but what really worked was how I felt when I got back from a run kinda made up my mind for me - you know what I'm talking about.

How much did your running and breathing improve once you stopped smoking and how quickly??

I think it will give a good boost and motivate me if I feel this difference quite quickly or is that not very realistic??

I'll be honest and I hope I don't offend too many people here, but isn't the fact that smoking is killing you and draining your finances enough motivation to make anyone quit?

It was more psychological for me, I knew I was capable of better but I wouldn't push myself hard if I had been smoking.

I'm presuming this is a similar drug to Zyban. If it is prescribed medication, it is probably a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). They are usually anti-depressants, but a few have the novel side effect of stopping the desire to smoke. I know a few people who used Zyban, and they said after a few days they no longer got a high from smoking, so stopped. It basically stops any enjoyment from smoking.

Talking Woooooooooooooo Hoooooooooooooooo!!!

Just thought I would let EVERYONE know that I have been off the evil weed (ciggies that is)

FOR A WHOLE WEEK!!! YEEEE HAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!

As you can see I am a bit chuffed with myself.

I am using Champix, the new stop smoking drug and although I have encountered more problems than most in my stop smoking support group (due to an allergies problem) I would recommend them.

I have stopped smoking before but it has been TORTURE

With Champix, I have found it much easier, that said - it is not a wonder-drug and you still have to want to stop.

I will keep you updated on my progress, but this is my 1st milestone and I look forward to mentioning more.

I'm as happy as a sandgirl
