So did I when I used to get them, but you still have to stop what you're doing to answer the phone to find out it's a sales call. Which can be a flipping nuisance if you're in the middle of baking, or if the phone rings at the crucial part of something you're watching on tv (so you never know how the detective worked out that the butler did it)

A good retort I heard for such calls came from an old boss. When they called and asked for his wife he said he didn't know were she was since she'd ran off with his best friend and taken the kids with him but if he ever gets his hands on the worthless cheating **** he'll do time, he then asked the caller in a still very angry voice that if they could find his wife he would make it worth while. Says he never got much bother after that.

My dad tells me he replies with this answer when they ask for his wife, he finds it amusing, he often winds folk up on the phone. I myself can't wait to put the phone down.

I'll go with that one, I'll always be a true loyal royal, even though they may well have shot themselves in the goolies this season

What cheeses me off?

Most definitely, above anything else is the Health & Safety do gooders that think it necessary to remove from us the ability to use 'common sense'.

I was speaking to our safety man the other day. He said that when conducting a risk assesment of the two things to take into consideration prior to starting is common sense!! Scary when you see some of the muppets at our place. I mean who in their right mind pressure test upto 800 psi and stands next to the thing with their safety glasses on their head, and uses the excuse it's so they can read the pressure gauge!! HELLO if it goes wrong you won't be reading anything!!!!!!!!!!

I guess that cheeses me off.

I've got other things to de-stress me. Shooting my load of 32 gram number sixes at a flying bird.

With respect I think you demonstrate why the H&S nerds have got their way. Your colleagues have obviously proved that 'common sense' was the lesson thy obviously 'bunked'!
