Measles, Mumps and Rubella. The governments recommended jab for all pre school children to control these awful diseases.

Unfortunately, I suffered terribly from measles at six years old. As approach my late forties, my age will give away that I did not have the benefit of this vaccination. According to my mother I was a ‘Living corpse’ for the best part of a week and she was convinced at the time that I would not survive. Fortunately (or not) I did, but it has left me with a severe hearing problem that is only corrected by today’s technical advances in the audiology world. So much so that it enables me to lead a very ‘normal’ life.

So please, any new or prospective parents, please do not hesitate to have this vaccination for your loved ones. I’m lucky; I’m still here to annoy you all. Many others have gone before me.

When it was time for my Little Princess to have her vaccinations we didn't even contemplate her not getting them. Why you would risk your childs life like that beggars belief. Sorry to hear about your close call with Him Downstairs Scr8pe. You seem to ahve recovered with a modicum of humour so all was not lost!!

Thanks Squint.. Fortunately, I lost the bulk of my hearing early on and so do not remember 'normal' hearing and so what I never had, I shall never miss. Life has thrown other problems my way which included infertility. But after a 10 year struggle with that problem we were rewarded with four beautiful children who have given me that best years of my life and life just gets better everyday.

Yes, financially, it one hell of a struggle, but the children are the only reward we need.

Im not a parent but it always suprises me that people still don't give their kids the MMR jab. I understand some kids have bad reactions to the MMR jab but its a small amount and they have treatments to help with the reactions.
If / when I become a parent I wouldnt dream of not giving them the jab.......

If every got the jab would that mean MM and R would eventually be a thing of the past?

This reminds me... I never had the Measles jab, since when I was a wee boy it was just a jab for mumps & rubella... perhaps I should look into getting it done

You're clearly a mere young whippersnapper. Back in my day [zimmer frame icon, quavery voice], you got none of them and had to suffer the illnesses. Well, us girls did get rubella at about 11-ish, but we'd mostly had german measles by then anyway.

I've never thought about getting measles vaccination. I've had just about every holiday-type vaccination going, but no-one's ever mentioned getting jabbed against measles and I've never thought of it.

All my kids have had their jabs I didn't even hesitate. Noticed though they don't give the TB injection anymore, but they did when I went to school.

I've just completed a completye course of vaccinations for worldwide travel for work. I've had; rabies, all the hepatitise, tetnus which I was allergic to, diptheria, yellow fever, polio and numerous others all with no ill effect other than a slightly sore arm after getting three in one arm in one day.

I think it's safe to say your gonna be ok

I can even travel to Englandchestershire in relative safety!

I told one of the girls at work I had to go to the doctors for an appointment to get my hepititus test. She looked at with in disgust before I had a chance to explain you needed to go for a blood test to see if the vacination had been effective.
