Job offer and don't know what to do

I went for an interview yesterday and I've just had a phone call saying that I've got the job.

But I don't know whether I want to take it

I enjoy working where I do at the moment, it's a great team, we have a good laugh, it's very busy so time goes really quick but it's also quite a relaxed environment.
The problem is, after spinal surgery last December my neck isn't up to lifting huge heavy boxes up two flights of stairs anymore.

I've mentioned this and asked if there would be something else I could do, suggesting that I would have to leave otherwise, but nothing has come of it.

So this job I went for yesterday...

Good hours - 7 til 12, Mon to Thurs
higher rate of pay than I'm on
good mid year bonus + Christmas gift
5 weeks holiday
good staff discount

BUT... it looks like a tedious job

What to do??

You need to clarify asap with your current employer about the lifting issue and if the answer is nothing has been done about it - run away quick and grab the new job. most jobs become tedious after a while anyway so that's no problem, more money and all the other perks.

Win Win Win I think.

I agree with Granty - you can't lose.

If you really want to stay where you are - tell them you need to change your duties because of your neck AND you need a pay rise. If they say no - tell them that you have no other option than to hand in your notice, then just focus on the plus points of the new job: You'll be free from lunch time til bed time and you get a long weekend every week (think of all the training you could fit in!!!).

I agree with Granty and Slowsteve Trin.

Use the offer as a bargaining tool, and if they don`t play ball, accept the new Job.

Go on Trinity, I'm working my notice at the moment and taking a big risk in my new post as it's fixed term, and my current post is permanent. That's if I don't get sacked first for messing about on here

Let's live dangerous!

Another for the new job, if your current job doesn't meet your needs of course. At the end of the day, if teh new job doesn't work out you can always look for something else - things always work themselves out in the end!

I think you should go for the new job. You have to ask yourself if you are truly happy where you are then why did you apply for the new job?

I find it's the people who make the job and you could be lucky again and work with another great bunch of peeps and like the other have said your health comes first.

Much sense has already been spoken, but I'll just chuck in my own two pennorth.

Now that you've thought about moving elsewhere, you'd find it really hard to stay where you are. Somewhere in your head, you've already moved on. You could stay where you are, but you won't enjoy it as much and you'll be restless. At least if you take the new job, you'll have a new challenge, and if it does turn out to be more tedious than you can live with, you can always move on again. You've already demonstrated that you're eminently employable, so I'm sure you wouldn't struggle to find something else.

Thanks everyone, it all makes sense.

If it wasn't for the spinal problem I'd stay put but you're right, my health has to come first

More time to train for the Ultra?

I know what I would do. Have to agree with others, if you hadn't already moved mentally you would not have applied.

Good luck whatever the decision.

Having a tedious job is worth it if it allows you to do the running you want to do. (In my experience.... )
