Thanks E.

Medievel weapons in the Highlands !! How cool is that , that really is 2 fingers to the "norm"

You up for career and social reinvention Steve ? I can thoroughly recommend moving to the sticks as a first step for cooling ones inner rage, I did that bit a few years ago.
In Forrest Gump when Forrest questions the meaning of it all I believe he runs, runs, runs, and just keeps on running. If you run past mine Im 1 mile left of the A1 in NE70 if your thirsty by then and want a cup of tea (actually Ive seen the distances you run and you probably wouldn't be )

So did Reggie Perrin have the right idea?
1. In ending his life? No of course not. The good thing about being in a rut is that its not likely to go on for ever and things will get better eventually
2. In making a new life for himself? Maybe. But its a bit cowardly in not facing up to things
3. In returning home (in disguise)? I'd say no here too. Once you've got so far down one path, sometimes it should be impossible to turn round and go back to your old life, especially if you expect everything and everyone to be as it/they were before.

Blimey Steve. Its a bit of a deep question!
Has been done in real life, I believe the fellow concerned is doing time for fraud and his sons have disowned him.

So no!

Did that 5 years ago..though not as drastically as originally planned and finances and a job coming up in town that had my name all over it meant I went back to the same old regime...SWMBO though has completely changed her career.

Always stop for a tea and chat..so you never know!!

We downsized and left our jobs to move here with no work to come to. Trouble is we ended up buying with a mortgage so eventually income had to be found! So after doing some warehouse work I found myself back in the office again, out of work for 10 months and now back in an office.
SWMBO went from International Pensions with a top plc to running a small library to now having done a 2 yr ecology/conservation course and working for the RSPB.

Doing something more basic has its appeals...
