Twinnies Manchester 10k race
Here we are again, another race report from me.
Well after the last few days of Illness with flu i wasn't sure if i would make this race but i had raised a fair bit of money for my chosen charity, Alzheimer's and I really didn't want to let anyone down, having tried to change my place over to my hubby and being unsuccessful i decided yesterday that i had to do it myself.
Had the usual restless night and got up around 7.30am not feeling too bad considering, loaded the car and set off for some friends just outside Manchester city centre, a bit of a stressful journey as kids playing up and Sat Nav broke but eventually we arrived, parked car and jumped on a tram in city centre, frantically tried to find a loo as start time was fats approaching, said my goodbyes to family and friends and made my way to the start line, was stood there looking for Dave ( Bats ) and Rob the daffodil when i realised i had forgotten my Garmin, panic set in, I couldn't run without my Garmin , could feel myself getting stressed and just wanted the race to start ( Silly I know ) I managed to get to the front and the gun went, within 2 minutes i knew i was going to struggle, the flu bug i had had since Wednesday had gone to my chest and i was really struggling to breath, i was gasping to get enough air in my lungs but was determined not to walk, i didn't know my pace as had no watch and was getting myself in a bit of a tizz, told myself to calm down and got a steady pace going, loads of people were overtaking me but i just tried to focus on my pace and getting enough air in my lungs, before i knew it we were at the 5k marker and i knew i was going to make it albeit at a slow pace, the support from the crowds was great and it helped me keep going, that and the thought of everyone that had been kind enough to sponsor me. As i approached the final straight i heard my hubby and boys shouting me so i ran over and gave the boys a high 5, I still had no idea of the time but knew i was almost at the finish so i pushed as hard as my poorly lungs would let me and crossed the finish line in 58 something, I had got my sub 60 despite everything.
I know I can do a better time as i have done 54 mins during a HM but I'm happy with my time today.
Sorry i didn't see any of the RF gang, Rob i did see you I think and shouted you but you looked at me blankly..............shouting Ray at you instead of Rob probably didn't help I blame the overdose on lemsips for my muddled brain

Sorry you didn't feel so good.
But 58 mins is still a great time, especially with the effects of flu - well done!
Hope you get better soon.

Well run/done!
I do seem to remember this mad woman shouting "Ray, Ray, Ray!!!" About ten minutes later I thought "I wonder if that was someone off the forum getting Rob and Ray mixed up, but it was too late to go back and check at that point
