Training Blog: Work In Progress
I've been asking for suggestions for a long time, now it's time to start looking properly at the new training blog.
I'll use this thread to post updates, and to ask questions.
The first thing I want to do is address a lot of the problems with the entry form. e.g. asking for the weather when doing gym work. While I'm doing input form I need to know what to stick on it.
So my first question is this... What training activities do you do, that you might want to log. You can suggest anything because I have a plan that will let you log everything you might consider training. My goal here is to figure out the most common.

Bairy sounds good mate.
Things I would like to log - running, gym work (both cardio and weights), cycling and 5-a-side football

Garmin upload
I already record my runs and Mrs Hrun grumbles when I then spend time in an evening updating my blog.

my feelings would be to list the running types (like they are currently)
but then have an "other" option.. that enables a txt box so that people can enter what they want

Running is like mouthwash; if you can feel the burn, it's working.

Great minds..
I've got some ideas for design in terms of the input form, to address some of the issues. I think I'm gonna start drafting designs later today and get some feedback on them.

.. or a tad longer. I've got a page full of unreadable scribble so progress is being made

Attached is a draft for the new input form.
It hasn't come out quite as pretty as I'd hoped but maybe someone will come up with something that looks a little nicer.
The idea is to have a tabbed interface (or perhaps radio buttons) where you can choose the type of activity you're putting in, from Running, Swimming, Cycling, Other.
On choosing the tab you'll get asked questions relevant to that tab. For example in running you'll get asked what shoes you wore, in swimming you won't.
The type of sessions inputs will be relevant to the tab. Running tab will list various types of running
Most inputs will have presets as they do now, and a free input if you want to include something that isn't there. If enough of the same custom entry come up it might be added to the presets.
Tabs will also have a bit of customisation where needed so that if you choose running > treadmill, you won't get asked for the weather or route.
I haven't decided what the other tab will show yet. I'm thinking activity name and comments, then an indoor/outdoor output so you can be asked about the weather etc. But I'm not sure yet.
The day off will include rest day and sick day, with a comments box.
The edit tab will let you edit your routes, shoes, and any other free input that's personal to your username.

That looks pretty good, esp since I try to cycle, swim or run every day so I might be biased.

Any chance of importing the data from sportstracks like runsaturday does?

Pete, for inputting your own if the best description isn't in the presets.
Giles, import is future feature.

I would second the import feature, would be great if you could import from a wide range of sources

As previously mentioned bairy, the Garmin communicator plugin allows people to upload straight from their garmin device, and I expect it does most of the hard work (i.e. extracting data) for you - without a doubt beats having to import to sporttracks/training centre, then export a file which then has to be uploaded to RF. I'm guessing it will also support future Garmin products whereas an 'import from file' function may require updating for future products?! Just a thought - seems silly to do extra work where it's not required!

Hey Bairy, would it make sense to have an injured tab on there as well as resting. Then if you have an injury for a week you can put that down. over a year it might reveal some intresting things about injuries, like you always get injured if you do a certain amount of mileage too quickly.
Just an idea, other than that it looks very good!
