It would be good if there was a store sponsoring the forum that could give all members discounts

On the ever growing todo list we're hoping to set up a classifieds section where people can plug their site.

The current plan is
- If they offer a working discount code, the listing is free.
- Else they pay a small fee.

I don't think we'd get a specific store sponsoring us, but yeah it would be nice.

Could you put the 'London to Brighton' mileage thread into the corner with running total count - and exclude it from new posts? Not sure if that is easy to do though.

Well - not everyone is putting all there mileage in here - and its one of those you quickly click in and out of just to make it disappear from New Posts. (Well I do anyway). Sorry - I warned you I was in a grump today!!!

I thought the running count in the corner was a good compromise... plus if the number changes every day, it might improve the sites search engine rankings.

gotcha, thats why I asked for "Today's post" to be put back as sometimes you look at a thread want to think about it and then come back to it and the little begger is gone.

Today's post is in "user links" if you find that useful for now.

Good idea

If the posts don't count it would still come up as a new post. I just read all the ones I want and then use mark all threads read to clear the rest.

That's a good idea. I'm not sure how difficult it would be given the number of rules you have to follow with vB, but it's certainly something to consider.

That's something I could turn into a sidebar block, however in order to keep a running total it would rely on the running count being in a set format, e.g. *bold*1,234.56*bold*
It's something I could do though.

In the meantime, you can always bookmark the thread in your browser

I won't be stopping it from appearing in new posts because some people might want it to appear there.

I'm struggling to picture how this one works... currently you can post 'visitor messages' on other people profiles which anyone can read and post in (assuming permissions set accordingly)... would this differ much from the current setup?

You could always drop someone a personal message too

Sweaty, apologies if I'm teaching you to suck eggs here (never quite understood that expression but hey...), but if you click on new posts to get all the new posts you haven;t read, you can go through the ones that interest you and then click 'quick links > mark forums read' to clear the remaining threads from your 'new posts' list.

Ben means be able to post replies to people's individual blog entries. They'd display under the blog entry probably with a small indent.

There are public messages but they aren't displayed all that well, and you'd have to show which blog entry you're referring to.

Yeah. that's what I mean.

The only way I can think to easily describe it easily is if say in the section titled 'Training and race tactics', amongst 'general training discussion' 'sub 5k' '5k' etc there was a section called something like 'training blogs' .
When you click on the 'blogs' section, it then displayed everyones blogs as individual threads....Each blog with it's own thread title, for instance, mine ATM is called 'Ben's road to half marathons' (hopefully)

If someone were to click on 'ben's road to half marathons' then within that thread would maybe be a brief rundown of my training history as a first post, maybe listing my typical weeks diet, what my training goals are, races entered etc.
Each day I train, I add the entry to my thread and if desired I'd include how I felt whilst training, any dogs I nearly tripped over, any injury problems etc etc.
If another member finds a particular blog interesting enough or reads something they feel they may be able to assist with, then they click the 'Post reply' button and add their comments just as you would to any other thread.

Now, obviously the 'Training Blogs' section is at the top and I don't know if it would be even possible to alter the current format to allow folk to post in each others' blogs...I merely used my above ideas to explain what I meant about having blogs as open threads.

It was just a thought I had the other day purely due to me having some beginners injury probs ATM which I posted in my blog. I then made a post about it in the injuries section to which I got some good replies from Hrun in particular. I then thought if I could post in his blog and ask him any queries in the future it would be handy. I realise I could PM him or anyone else but then it's kept off the board I assume whereas if it were open, in a public blog then new posters or even lurkers or indeed anyone just reading the boards who are maybe having the same issues could learn from. Similarly, members reading others' blogs could post encouragement, hints and tips, constructive criticism on training methods being used and even some mild banter!

Like I said though, It was just a thought, I'm not trying to change stuff....Just thought I'd add my thoughts, don't lynch me LOL

Just start a new thread Ben. That way you get the possibility of a number of opinions. Or PM someone if you have a specific ?

The advantage of a post is there will be other people who have the same ? But might not post.

Yeah.

No worries, I will.

It's not my idea I should add but something that many other fitness/weights/cardio related forums I've posted on in the past have and works very well, with some individuals' journals having 200+ pages.

No probs, just thinking in text I guess.

Cheers
