1/2 Marathon sub section?
Just wondered if it would be worth having a 1/2 Marathon sub section on the marathon area.

I put as a sub forum as although they are seperate races with their own training many people doing a half are heading for a full.

But some people have no intention of doing a marathon and see the half as the true glamour event They are completely different races and I believe should be treated as such. I would also suggest a 10k and 5k forum.

I have to admit that following posts via the new post button means I rarely pay any attention to the section a post is in. The only time it is relevant is if I new post and have to decide where to put it.

I agree with Hrun in that I rarely browse through the sections unless looking to start a new thread - I would imagine the sections are of more importance to guests and newcomers?
Personally I don't see much value in having a seperate section just for a half marathon... a half marathon is a relatively common distance, whereas a marathon takes specific training and is quite specialist, therefore warranting its own section... a half marathon in my opinion, is no more specialist than a 10k, 5k, or 1mile event...
If you were to create seperate sections for anything related to Mara, Half, 10k and 5k... this would be a different story, as people could find information (particularly training related stuff) related specifically for that distance. Whether we cover enough distance specific topics to warrant this though, who knows!

I guess the reason I brought it up was because when I was training for the 1/2 marathons I wasnt very sure where to post a thread about it.
I agree I tend not to actually look at the sections unless Im looking to start a new thread.

I'm the same, I pay some attention to the location since it might need moving, but I can see why most would ignore it.
However, we do want to encourage the creation of new threads, so I think this is quite an important thing to sort out.

I think for creation of new threads having maybe a racing section and within that have the marathon, 1/2m, 10k, 5k as subsection? Is that getting to many subsections?

I can't see why it would hurt to have all these sub-sections, it my encourage other users to sign up to the site?

Im sure we can soon fill them up though, its not like non of us will post in these sections. I know I will have plenty of questions with regards to future races.

The forum structure as a whole does need looking at with a view to possibly moving things around, and making new forums.
Me and the staff shall have a chat about seeing what could be changed. I'll leave the poll and this thread open if anyone wants to contribute any ideas they might have.

Filling threads doesn't seem to be a problem. OP, one answer and then a couple of pages of off topic stuff
