Here is a map of todays course. The GPS lost signal in some areas so the distance is a bit short of the 13.1 miles but trust me, I did it

I have a feeling the Edinburgh Half marathon is probably one of the flatest course in Scotland, I could be wrong but one thing I am sure about is, Dunfermline is not a flat course

2.20. thats a rough time at the moment until the chip times come in. For my first im happy with that and as i was going for 2.30 its a bonus. Had a few niggles and needed the odd walk but all in all im very happy. My mate got a bit of cramp but all in all it went well. Also thanks to the BP for letting me use the toilet . I couldnt agree more about the marshalls and water stop people (everyone really in general, trying not to miss anybody like the baggage people). If any you ever read this - THANKS. It made the day better.

Well done to you both, especially tackling all them there hills on the route! My last half had just one long hill climb and that was bad enough. I was thinking of doing Leeds half later this year but I read that parts of it are hilly. Anyways, congrats for finishing both of you.

That's a great time Momorris......I'm glad I Q'd for the gents before the run since there werent many portaloos on the route, were there any actually...can't remember seing them if they were there.
I would say if your getting a 2:20 time at Dunfermline you should easily get the 2:15 or 2:10 in Edinburgh, but since thats a year away you should even be able to sneak under the 2 hour mark
Im going to start going to the Carnagie Harriers running club on Tuesday's and Thursday nights, I had a chat with them at the Expo and they are really nice. That should help me with hills and things but I probably wont go until after the full Edinburgh marathon in a couple of weeks.

Forgot to say, mo, did you find the start a bit congested? There were quite a few bottle necks on the course and some hazards I didnt expect i.e. a metal pole laying flat on the path just up from the Post Sorting Office and the Council trailer on the exit from the park just after the start!
A couple of times I was just getting in to my pace and I had to slow right down due to too many people trying to squeeze through a gap......didnt they expect as many people to take part in the run?

No portaloos that i can remember. I had a chat with the Harriers as well and agree they were really nice. The Lady even remembered me and gave me support as i went past where she was marshaling, they always seem to place in competitions as well so hopefully the whole club is as nice. There was the odd bit of congestion and i found that i was with quite a bunch of people until i went to the BP. It didnt really cause me that much bother but i was really surprised to see the pole not fenced off or anything. I can see how the odd bit could cause difficulty with pacing though.

Really i didnt find the hills that bad (apart from through the subway). Nothing that made me wish for a flatter course. Dundee here we come. (maybe).

Ye, I think that was probably the toughest hill, and probably the shortest as well.

None of what I said ruined my day though, it was fantastic.

I will know by tonight whether I am doing the Dundee one. Im still wanting to get sub 2 hours

cloud 9

Did the Dunfermline Half Marathon today, and am still on cloud 9!
I agree with the other comments - it was a really fun day. It was my first 'half' and I was aiming for 1, 42ish. Ended up doing much better than I expected (1,36,39), so I am ecstatic!! Wish I could learn to drink on the run though - everyone else seems to find it natural, but I just can't do it!
Thanks to the organisers and friendly fellow runners - it was a day to remember for me.

Brilliant time Sian!

I found getting when running I use water bottles, much easier than trying to drink from the bottles supplied.

Well done Owain and SuperSian. They are times I dream about at the moment, my chip time confimed 2.20.19. Owain that is so close to sub 2 hours, its easily within your grasp now. JamboKaren go for it. I had been away for the last 3 months with only 30 minutes allowed on the treadmill for training. Also when i got back I did 11k which boosted my confidence slightly but both myself and my mate were really worried about completing the distance. It turned out it was my legs that actually went tired and not my lungs which has now given me a real booster.

The thing I have learnt though is its so different from training, the words of encouragement, the other runners, (the carb gels) all help to push you along those extra miles. Its a strange feeling I keep wanting to grab people and tell them all about it.

Edited to add - getting lapped by the winner just before the turn around was a bit of a low but my god could they run.
