in my expereince the boys will run and then spend £100+ on physio before they will get a proper gait analysis, the ladies however spend the time and the money in the first place and suffer fewer injuries as a result

some people are lucky or as i was told by someone on another forum, luck has nothing to do with it he just knows his own body....eh i know my body pretty well having lived in it for 35 + years, i also know that without proper shoe fitting and analysis many of the clients i see would not be running

Ironbridge Runner just moved shop by the way, it's now a short distance up the hill from where it was (by the iron bridge) Easy enough to find - if you walk there from town you will probably do what I did and notice the big "Ironbridge Runners" sign on your way to where it used to be.

The new shop's way bigger, looks good

Great new store. Lots more room than the old stores.
Go for it, they are very friendly and also do ladies group runs and the Brooks sunday runs

Getting my feet looked at and buying really good trainers was the best thing iv done!! i was running in new balance trainers to start with (just bought out of JJB) and i was forever gettin sore knees ankles and had real problems with my back. i went to the achilies heel in debenhams and the girl picked me out a pair of trainers that were best for my feet and OMG what a difference! they actually made it easier to run! wudnt ever run again in just a normal pair of trainers. but i guess every1 is different this was just my personal experience!

They have merged both shops, Eddie.

I haven't actually had any gait analysis yet... Anyone know a good physio in Exeter?

Cheers!
I think you are definitely one of the lucky ones. Whilst all the gimmicks you see on shoes these days can not be necessary I think that an analysis of the way you run is a great idea.
I personally used to be able to run until the cows came home, but years of standing in my job means that now I find it difficult to run without pain. I can see that my preference for leaning on one leg means that there is an imbalance, and definitely needs to be addressed.
I don't know how to do this myself and the aid of a good shop will be invaluable. Don't forget that you don't have to buy the most expensive shoe in the shop, or the one they recommend, but it is a good idea to use their advice for your benefit.

I found with gait analysis when I was really suffering with shin splints didn't really work for me. I land right on the outside of my foot but I run in neutral trainers. With the gait analysis they never ran me at enough speed because my foot strike depends on my speed. When I'm running at 18km/h it's completely different than when i'm running at 12km/h. On the treadmill it's also different to road running as the mechanics are completely different. Probably the reason why it didn't work for me. If your gait doesn't change then it's morelikely to work.
