Where is a good place to buy running shoes

and get them properly fitted?

I live in Surrey, but can get out as far as Bluewater and other large shopping centres. Never had them fitted before so no idea where to begin.

Thanks

what they do in a reputable running specialist shop is Find out what your gait is like through analysis .
they put yiou in a pair of neutral running shoes then pop you on a treadmill for a few minutes to see via a computer which way you run and land on your feet through this process they will then show you a replay and explain whats going on

Then they'll suggest some appropriate running shoes to you, my advice would be to try on as many makes as you can as they all vary and what suits one person may not suit another they'll probably let you run up the street in them to test drive them ..

Bear in mind that your feet can swell a whole shoe size so you need to allow enough room for them (your feet ) and sox

That's basically it they reckon that 99%of women overpronate but get checked to make sure

Take it easy

well if you can get to the London Marathon Expo in ExCel you can have a proper gait analysis for freeee, plus you might get a bargain

As long as you make sure you goto a proper running shop, and not the likes of JJB or Sports World etc you'll be fine

when I first started running I had Nike Shox and thought they were okay, but started getting pain in my archilles heel, went to a specialist running shop and they put me on a treadmill and video'd me and played it back and they recommend the correct shoes for the way you run. I could not believe the difference it is amazing, I seem to bounce along in my new trainers Asics Gel 1130 and it was money well spent, and no pain in my achilles since, so it is well worth it. Good luck Debs

Yeah, He Runs She Runs is a very good shop, or atleast the one in Sheffield is - went to check it out on Sunday and ended up buying lots of stuff, including the new model of my brooks (Adrenaline gts 8). The staff were very knowledgable... didn't see any particular gait analysis stuff - but they did have two treadmills and everything. So yeah, try on as many shoes as you possibly can, and just keep on whittling them down until you find your perfect pair!

p.s. What socks are you wearing bubblydebz?? Your shoes must be quite bad if you're getting blisters even when you're wearing socks, so definitely go get some nu shooos!

Tescoes trainer socks are fab!! Honestly... I find one longer runs, like over 9 miles that's when I start needing some extra cushioning and so I've got a pair of long nike ones which are great... and some other ones which I've forgotten what they're called cuz they're shorter and not as cosie so haven't used them in forever heh.

If you have time this week you could go to the Marathon Expo at the Exel Centre, there is usually a few big companies there where you will be able to get a gait analysis done and then you can decide which brand you want to buy, also you will get cheap running gear too including socks, quite often then not you can come out of there with loads of goodies.

It is a lot quieter during the week and is open late starts on Wednesday.
