When I used to do video gait analysis for one of the brands, I tended to use the 'If it ain't broke don't fix it' motto. If they had been running for a while with no real problems then I wouldn't radically change the type of shoe.
Video gait analysis is a useful tool but NOT the be all and end all. It is not foolproof and depends very much on who is doing the analysis.

It also worries me that a Mizuno Wave Inspire was recommended WITH inserts as well? Possibly overkill?

I'm in agreement on this one. There seems to be alot of over analysis that goes on.

I've actually gone the other way with my trainers and started going for lightweights with less support and slimmer eva soles. Some of the new support models are more like platforms! And the heel is so much higher than the toe end. Surely that can't help you run naturally.

Had a nightmare at Tewkesbury. 1:42:20 last year, 2:13:47 this. Still on antibiotics for tonsillitis. I know it was stupid to run but I still enjoyed it at the back, chatting to passing runners and concerned well wishers. Spend time talking to Mick n Phil, Hot Tub Alci and other from the 'other side.'

How did your race go ?

It might be me imagining things, but Mizuno shoes seem to be getting recommended rather a lot these days. Are they really so good; or are they enjoying something of a "fashion peak"?

Mizuno do seem to be getting more popular. I personally think they make some excellent shoes, and don't rely simply on putting a block of grey foam in the medial side of the shoe to control over-pronation. A pair of Wave Riders I had were very good, although slightly too narrow for my foot.

My concern is that a good stability shoe was recommended together with inserts, possibly too much correction?

Are we saying that neutral shoes should be used with orthotics ?

This is a question that I have asked many people, but no-one seems able to give me an answer. Have even writen to Runner World asking this, but still no answer. Was told by my local running store that I need moderate to severe stability or motion control shoes as I am 14.5 stone and over pronate (more severe with the right foot), but I wear orthotics to keep planter faciitis at bay.
You just don't know who to believe or what to do for the best.

Normally an orthotic would go in a neutral shoe, but that is not always the case.
It depends on what type of orthotic it is, soft or hard? Is it designed specifically for you or bought off the shelf? If made for you, go by what the podiatrist tells you.
Guess you will have to be guided by what your local specialist shop tells you as well?

Thanks for the feedback sensible. I might try the mizunos without the inserts and see what I think. I like the trainer in all other respects but just not wanted to risk it.

I've had Mizinos in the past they have always been in the selection my local Running shop has offered but personally I prefer Asics. Has anyone tried Pearl Izumo trainers if so what like? I quiet like the look of them but have never known anybody with a pair!

Pearl Izumi's are meant to be extremely comfy as they don't have any seams, but they used to be really quite firm. That was a couple of seasons ago so not sure if they have softened them up at all? They make some really good (but expensive) clothing too..
