new trainers and now new pain

hi everyone im new here my name is sam (female), i have been running for about 3 years and have only just replaced my mizuno trainers as i read that they should be replaced after 300 or so miles i dont run huge distances about 4 miles 3 times a week, anyway i replaced my old trainer which if i remember rightly were stability/cushioned shoes which i bought before i new a little bit more about running, i have only done the wet foot test thing to see if i have a high or low arch as i dont know of a specialist running shop near me, the wet foot test showed i have lowish arch though not flat footed, so i bought asics gel 1120 for mild pronators from achilles heel , i wore them last night for the first time they feel very comfortable on my feet but after about 1/2 mile my right ankle started hurting, is this normal to have new pains with new trainers and should i keep on running in the hope ill get used to them or is this a warning sign?

Hi Sam, welcome to RF.
Problem maybe that the wet foot test can't tell you if you pronate or not. So basically, if you're running in shoes designed to correct something in you which doesn't need any correcting, you're going to get problems, I think. Sorry I can't be any more optimistic or helpful. I'd just be very wary of using "corrective" running shoes.
I've made that rather expensive mistake in the past... buying shoes, and only later finding that they've been designed to correct something or other... too late when I've set off running in what felt to be comfortable shoes, but turned out to be devices of torture after about a mile. Never ran in those shoes again.

Hi Sam, where in the UK are you, maybe someone can recommend a specialist running shop near you. They should be able to tell you if the shoes you bought are right for your running style.

Had a quick google, there is a sweatshop in Ipswich. (I live in Devon so I don't know your area very well).

There is a shop called Runners World in Chelmsford, know the manager - really good guy. Much closer to you (google the address) and take your old (and new shoes) with you and they will be able to tell you exactly what you need.

ok, im told im a neutral runner slightly underpronating rather than overpronating as i thought, and that although my asics 1120 are not what he would have chosen for me, they shouldnt be the cause of any problems and so he wasnt going to try and sell me something else, i suppose ill just have to see how it goes ,
