Being relatively new to running, I have only had one pair of running shoes (Nike Air structure triax 10) They are about 8 months old and must have clocked up around 800 miles. They look and feel as good as new and I would certainly buy nike again.

Besides the Nike Max Moto, none of the shoes in the running range (Bowerman) have visible air units anymore.Haven't done for a couple of years..

I run in the Vomeros and they are a great pair of shoes. Nike are a big brand and that's probably why they attract some hatred. I think lots of people run in their shoes which aren't designed for running and then get problems. It's more important to find the right shoes for you.

Nike do some really light racers, though I'd always race in my Mizuno's in triathlons as I need some more padding as I run with no socks in races.

My first pair of running trainers as an adult were a cheaper pair of blue (rank) Nike Darts. They had a narrow fit, and I used to think that my feet ached after a run because I was just out of shape... but when I started doing longer than 1-2km it became clear that it wasn't me.

My next pair were a pair of Saucony Grid Forums and they are the best I ever had... but I cannot find them anymore.... so I run in a pair of New Balance 755 and will be running my second marathon in them in May with any luck. So I think going for a brand synonymous with running would be a great place to start looking for decent trainers.

I think Nike have a massive market to fulfil, from elites like Mrs Radcliffe to Burberry clad chavs who probably couldn't run to the end of the road if their lives depended on it, so getting a "good" pair may be harder due to their massive range.

I've always up until now had nike. The last pair were vomeros and couldn't fault them for comfort but they did wear out quickly due to the soft soul.

I have recently changed to saucony triumph 5's and so far am impressed.
