Want to take part in the Great South Run this year but ran out of time to get a place?

Friends of PICU still has some guaranteed charity places available for runners wanting to take part in the Great South Run and who are willing to raise money to support Children’s Intensive Care in the South.

Any runner who wants to take up the offer needs to be quick off the mark as places are going fast. To take part runners will be asked to pay a registration fee of £32 and pledge to raise a minimum of £200 in sponsorship for the charity. Runners will receive a complementary “Friends of PICU” Running Vest or T-Shirt (your preference) prior to the race.

Friends of PICU is a registered charity that supports the patients and families of the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Southampton General Hospital, by raising funds to provide vital equipment & services, not normally provided by the statutory authorities, directly to the unit itself.

The Southampton PICU is the regional centre of excellence for childrens intensive care with more than 700 children (0 - 16yrs) each year being retrieved and admitted from hospitals from across the West Sussex, Hampshire, Wiltshire, Berkshire and Dorset regions. Many of the children are transferred directly from the A&E Departments from regional hospitals having suffered massive trauma following a road traffic accident, but the unit also looks after critically ill children recovering from either medical emergencies or who require cardiac surgery, neurosurgery and/or neonatal surgery. The unit is committed to providing family centred care, and view it as essential in preserving the integrity of the family unit. To this end, six family rooms provide free accomodation to enable non-local families to stay with their children during their stay.

This is a fantastic opportunity to take part in one of the most prestigious races in the area whilst raising money for a good cause at the same time!
