Cheers. Now comes the hard part of getting a quicker time. Its going to be a long road...
I've found that the hill reps have really helped though and every little second counts.

Are you aiming for a sub 7 next?

I've never 'raced' a mile so do not know - but earlier this week, in last time trial before 10 K gt scot run on Sunday, i did the first mile in 7:50 - bettering my prev time to that point before that was closer to 8:10.... so definite improvement. Maybe one day i could maintain that pace more than a mile??

I've never timed myself officially over 1 mile but my split for the first mile of the Blackpool 10k last Sunday was 6:48. (Far too fast for me as always)

I reckon I could probably clock around 5:30 if pushed on a 1 mile road race.

I wouldn't mind running a 1 mile road race actually!

You should do it. They are really good fun, if painful. But don't underestimate how difficult 1 mile racing is. 5:30 isn't easy. In the 1 mile races I've been competing in the 5:30 guys are still sub 40 10k runners. Having run 10ks at sub 6 minute pace, I thought a sub 5 minute mile would be easy, but I still haven't managed it!!

I probably am underestimating how hard it is (I underestimate everything).

I'm really tempted to get out and time myself over the distance at full pelt. I'll post my time when i've got round to doing it, which will probably be horrifically over my initial estimation!

Right JBBury, due to my increasingly competitive nature and new-found love for anything running related, I have just thrown on my sweaty running gear from earlier today and decided to time myself over 1 mile in the pitch black! (My brother thinks I am mad!)

And you were right JBBury, I did underestimate how hard it was. Finishing time was:

5:51

Not bad considering i've been out today for 8 miles.

Wow! That's commitment!!!! You're clearly mad haha. But pretty damn good going on the back of an 8 mile run. Maybe 5:30 is realistic on fresh legs!!
