2 mile road race tactics
Thinking about doing the Self Transcendence 2mile race at the Meadows, Edinburgh, on Wednesday evening this week or next week. Not sure what tactics or pace goal to aim for. I guess it should feel almost flat out for most of the race as it's only 2 miles, but don't know what my 2 mile race pace should be. Fastest 2 miles I've ever run was an 11:14 for the first two miles of my 10k PB. Should I be aiming for sub 11? Anyone raced 2 miles and can give some advice?

I was thinking the same JB, not sure how I would pace a 2 mile or a 1 mile race. There is no time to get it right really, just go for it and hope you can hold on to the end I guess.
Dont think I will be doing any of these races in the enxt couple of weeks but good luck with them if you do ..

I've never raced a 2miler before, though I should think you'd be aiming for sub 11mi James (especially if you were only 14secs off for the 1st 2mi of a 10k!)
I'd say go out strong... but not all out, I know if I started 'all out' there's no way I could maintain it for the full 2mi. Best of luck, and please post back after the race(s) to say what pacing technique you went with and how you found it

I would break it down into Km's, first one comfortable "good" pace, next one hard (not flat out) then the last 1.2 all out.

Think I might do it both this week and next week. Use this week as a tester, then try and improve next week. Legs might still be a bit tired this Wednesday, but who knows. Weather looks good for this week so might as well give it a go. Only costs 1:50, so no need to feel bad if you crash and burn Splitting it into km sounds like a good idea. Or maybe even half miles. A guy from my club did it last week and said the marshalls shout out your 1mile time after the first lap! Wonder if Steve would allow me to count the first mile as a PB

Would be interesting to know the course as well, since my work is right next to the meadows I could give it a couple of tries during my lunch hours.

Still planning on racing this tonight as weather seems good. Question is do I wear my Mizuno race shoes or my bright orange NB race shoes. the latter are the lightest, but the Mizunos are more comfortable. Oh the dilemma of race fashion

Then maybe I should try the Nike Mayflys for the first time. Had them for almost 6 months now and never worn them

I wasn't aware there was such a thing, I guess I fall into the "boring" category of race fashion :-)

you'd have broken 2:50 with some brighter trainers Stu
JBBury... if you can run in the mayfly's... I would do so without question.
EDIT: P.S. Stu, did you beat that other guy in the photo? he looks like he should've been leading the field
