Salt hardens the skin I think. It's a dessicant (sp?) so removes moisture, therefore hardening the skin.

I heard peeing on your feet was good for athlethes foot. Something to do with the enzymes in urine killing the bacteria in athletes foot fungus and starting good cultures.

I wouldn't fancy being a chiropodist treating old people.... but at least they won't have blisters and athletes foot

Steve... well, I would if I had a blister

Surgical spirit is used for hardening the skin.

Some people use vaseline, not to harden the skin but just avoiding blisters but I guess that's more often used on the toes.

The oldest way to harden the skin of your feet is to walk barefoot - I once did that, progressively walking longer distances (offroad) and even running a bit on the track and then managed to run a steeplechase race barefoot.
This conditioning process took about 3 months.

And I think Trinity uses Compeed

Crikey Fulmar, a steeplechase in bare feet?! I wouldn't fancy making any mistakes over the barriers...those things are pretty solid! Didn't your feet get softened after seven wettings in the water?
Once ran an 8-37 3k in bare feet, although I'd taped a couple of toes to prevent blistering.

I try walking barefoot from time to time, generally wimp out and go, carefully, back for my shoes after about 20meters though

I find that when I keep getting a blister in a certain spot the skin generally hardens itself after a few runs. Otherwise, have you tried those small circular blister plasters?

Trinity, has compeed out-performed old ladies' wee in any scientific studies?

I thought the wee thing was for treating jelly fish stings......remeber that episode of friends. I was always told surgical spirirt could be used to harden the skin but personally I'd rather use vaseline and compeed.

Maybe the physio who prescribed you orthotic cold adjust them slight - pt a bit of exta padding in the arch to reduce the blistering. Its been a while since you got them.

I got two sore bits on my feet saturday.

Was not blisters, but hard skin, one on each foot at the edge of the ball of my foot.

It was burning

I picked at it, maybe was not the best idea
