I ran 10miles in 91mins 39 seconds which means I was spot on the 2 hour 1/2 marathon pace!!

Im not sure if I will manage it on a race day but you never know. If I kept the pace going I would have completed the 13.1 miles right on the 2 hours. Very pleased with myself and not feeling to bad for doing it either, which is even better.

I think I would have felt better if I had taken water to the gym with me (stupidly forgot!), one good thing was the gym was quite warm so it prepares me for running in slightly warmer weather.

I just hope my Garmin will have a strong enough signal to keep my pace correct in 2 weeks time for my next half marathon.

I would like to thank everyone for helping me keep up the pace, when I hit an hour I didnt feel tired but very bored of running on the mill but the thought of coming online tonight to post and say I did it kept me going Sad aint it!

Its amazing what your body will allow you do to!
I think I will buy some proper running socks before the 1/2 marathon though, the socks I wore today are usually fine for my normal pace but they became a tad sweaty and I now have a couple of small blisters, but their not bad, I will be back out on the paths tomorrow for my 1/2 hour run in the morning

O.

Fantastic stuff Owain! I'm sure if you can manage that on a treadmill you should be able to manage that little bit further on race day and squeeze under the 2 hour barrier

Try not to get too caught up with the Garmin during your race though, if there's a slight incline and you try to maintain a 9:00/mi pace you may soon bugger your chances! I was jogging uphill last night to find my time had dropped to 2mins/mi less than my pace before I'd reached the hill!

It may surprise you to hear, but despite my love for all things gadgety etc, and any kind of ability to analyse my run - when it comes to a race I'll only ever wear a stopwatch at most, and my last 2 races i've gone without any watch or anything and just ran on how I felt. I know if I were to wear my Garmin I'd keep looking at it and adjusting my pace - perhaps unnecessarily.

That's just my experience anyhow, feel free to listen/ignore as you please Again, well done on a great run! Gawd knows how you managed to stay on the 'mill for that long! I managed 10k once and vowed I'd NEVER attempt it again, lol.

I agree Richard with not getting caught up on race day with your garmin, I have mine just set to my hr and if it is where I want it to be then I know I am doing my best.

sorry to hijack a little - but can you get the garmin to show your HR properly on the screen?? Mine's set up as it comes out the box and it drives me NUTS to try and read the piddly little numbers in the top right hand corner next to the little heart symbol!

Thanks everyone!
The boredom was the hardest part of the run last night. I've just been out for a 1/2 hour run this morning and I am feeling great

Ive found that my garmin isn't going to be of any use to me during the 1/2 marathon, it didnt find a signal for the entire run I went on this morning and I was in the middle of a park! Bloomin thing only seems to get a good signal on the beach or running along the coast. So I will be wearing my stop watch and that is it. Tempted to sell my garmin on ebay and get a newer model to see if that helps. I really only want it so I can measure the distance of my runs rather than my pace.

Thanks again for everyones support and I reckon we should all, once every so often, just push ourselves a bit harder than normally and see how we get on.....I know I was suprised at the results

I think for the Dunfermline 1/2 marathon in 2 weeks time I will just go out and run to enjoy the atmosphere, if I get under the 2 hours then fantastic, if I don't then I can always say it was due to the hilly course

O.

LOL yeah you can have the screens how you want them eg:

4 little screens
3 little screens
2 screens
1 big screen

You can also set it so that with your up and down arrown keys you can flick through diffent screens, showing hr, spd, dist etc., with each flick you can have maximum of 4 or 1 screens.

I hope that makes sense.

I was aware of the up/down arrows, but not the ability to customize the display to that extent... I must've skipped over that in the manual

Oooowwwwh.... now I've got to decide if I want to wear my Garmin or not as just show some kind of basic info (like stopwatch)... I wouldn't wear my HR chest strap though.
I've always thought I'd love to see how I pace a race!
