Missing a race or pulling out of one is often the best thing to do...even though it may not seem like it at the time.
A few years back I dropped out of the Bury 20 at about 12 miles...just didn't have any energy....3 weeks later I did my marathon pb...as it was then..at London. I swear dropping out of Bury was the reason for the pb.
