I run 25 to 35 miles a week, and up it to about 50 to 55 a week for about 8 weeks prior to a marathon.

Only training at 11 miles this week. Last september, when I started running, I done too much too soon and had an injury delaying my return for 8 weeks . This ruined my training for the Hastings half marathon but taught me a valuable lesson. I'm am building my training up slowly using the 10% rule to enter the Norwich half marathon in June .

I've upped my mileage over the last six months to over 60 a week from around 15 - 20, not for any race in specific, but I am of the train of thought that quicker race times means building up the mileage in training.....and I just love running! My wife no longer call me by my christian name or any pet name, it is now Mr Gump or Forest.

My 'averages' since 99 have been
99 15kms/week, my best marathon in this year at 3:46
00 11kms/week
01 18kms/week, I upped it in this year for the London to Brighton
02 15kms/week
03 9kms /week
04 10kms/week
05 12kms/week
06 so far 50kms/week, thought I had better put some effort in for the GUCR and the Crawley 12hr track race.

No problems from upping the milage so much but have had to take a few days off because of a knee op, workplace injury and not running related although it limited me last year when I had planned to up my mileage.

Hoping to keep the average around 50kms for the year, that would be a good target for me and give me a nice base for some proper training in 2007. I am hoping the current volume will get me a Marathon PB. Under 3:30 would be very nice

milage

I'm at about 23 miles per week. Not training for anything at the mo.

I should be in the 30s at the moment but milleage has been down the last 2 weeks due to a nasty cold that doesn't seem to want to go away and pesky snow on the ground! Hopefully will start picking it up again tomorrow and get up to 50 or so in the build up to my first marathon in June.

Been incredibly lazy over the past 2 weeks and have done nothing! Need to pull my finger out and get to it!

There is a quote in Lore of Running that you should try to achieve as much as possible on as little training as possible before building up....

The problem is that people never challange themselves.
30 mpw is never going to get you really fit. High mileage for long periods is the way to build that aerobic base. You need volume to race well!

I've been thinking about upping my mileage for some time, the consensus seems to be that an increase in milage can lead to an increase in performance. I read in one of Gavin Thompsons posts that he is doing over 100 miles a week. Thats too much for me... I currently do around 35 p/w but I'd like to up to 60 miles p/w. What would be the best rate of increase. An extra 5 miles a week until I reach 60?

From reading all the other posts I assume I'd be best doing this gradually.
