what do other people plan to do in the final week leading up to the race? I was thinking of just doing a few 5k's during the week and then resting altogether from the thurs-sunday. not sure if thats right though.

best of luck everyone. here's hoping for a drizzly day on the 7th.

I'm hoping for some drizzle too!

My plan is much like yours, will do 12 or 13 miles on Sunday depending on how I'm feeling (and whether I get lost) then rest monday, short runs tue, wed, thu, then rest Friday and Saturday. That's what I did for my 10K last weekend and it went well.

Good luck, I'm beginning to get excited

just a pointer to consider guys... I wouldn't run your longest run the weekend before the half - especially if you're not accustomed to the longer distances, it could potentially affect you come race day...

Thanks Richard,

will maybe shorten that Sunday run, it will still leave me two Sundays of confidence boosting long runs. Say I do 11 this week and 12 the week after how far would you go the Sunday before (8 or 9 miles feels fairly easy)?

8 or 9 miles should be fine I'd have thought!

I am really annoyed.. I have to pull out from the race.

I have been sick for the past two weeks. I had really bad hear and throat infection - I also reacted badly to the antibiotics given. Anyway the race is in a week and my last run was 2 and a half week ago..

Shame, I was really looking forward to it.

That really is a shame!!! You don't necessarily need to pull out though - although I can it depends on your feelings of how a race should be treated.

If you're recovering/recovered, then although you've not ran the distance before, you could still use it as a training run, and an experience to get you used to the whole 'race atmosphere' even if you say, ran 6miles and pulled out there, or ran 6, walked 1, ran 6... ran 10 and pulled out (or walked to the finish). There's a whole host of ways you could still stand proud on the start line, but just adjust/forget any goals you'd originally set yourself.

I understand for your first event though you may want it to be a memorable and happy experience where you run start to finish untroubled and within your goal time - so I respect your decision if you give it a miss

What sort of distances have you attained so far?

Sorry to hear about you not being well

I might follow Richard's advice, turn up and run what I can.

to answer your question twinkle my last run was just over 10 miles.. I am going to do a few run next week to try to assess the damages.

The thing with running is that one builds up very quickly in term of stamina, but one also looses so quickly when out of practice for even two weeks..

you might surprise yourself and do better than you think especially under race conditions, best of luck with it, and keep us posted on how you get on
