You have the background from your previous races.
Can you aquajog? It's boring as hell but you can get very fit off it.
Good luck! Hang in there!

You can buy floatation devices to stop you drowning.

Good luck Trinity I've read some of your other threads with real interest I think you have lots to offer here. Never run a marathon before way too scarey and full of admiration for those that do.

I've been recovering from an injury but nothing as serious as yours and I've been run/walking again as sacred to do too muc too soon but I want to run a half marathon next year. Planning on following one of Jeff Galloways training plans as my aim is just to get round without hurting meself.

Latest update...

Remember I said that I did 27 last week (w/e 15th) and had 37 on the schedule for this week, which obviously I couldn't do because it would be too big a jump in mileage...

well... I had to do my long run on Saturday this week because of Sunday commitments and I completed the scheduled 14. As I was thinking over the weeks running I worked out that with the (stupidly run) half marathon on the previous Sunday, the 14 this Saturday and the few training runs in between I'd mounted up 40 miles in 7 days! Now I haven't done that since before this injury struck in April.

However, my week runs from Monday to Sunday and with todays little 3 miles in a nice 22 minutes 52 seconds I've got a much more sensible 30 miles for the week (or 43 for 8 days )

I did also get out on my shiny new road bike last Thursday, because I wanted to take a day off running, and did about 7 miles. It's been quite some years since I've ridden a bike like this and I'm not ashamed to say that it was more than a little scary at times... I think it'll take a while for me to get used to the drop handle bars, ultra skinny wheels and 28 gears again.

Anyway, 30 good miles completed last week, schedule says 24 next week (drop down week) but 41 the week after, so I'm thinking that I can catch up a little here. Maybe I could do 34 this week and then 38 the following week... then I'll have practically almost caught up.

The marathon is 14 weeks today... the weeks are just slipping by

Good for you, almost crusing now !!

Nice to hear that you are back on track, I can fully understand you comments about biking, I felt the same thing earlier this year when for the 1st time in years I got on mine. (My tip to you, is buy a big gel saddle)

The main thing Trinity, as you know, is not to push yourself and suffer a set back. Best to follow the plan and do the reduced week...you'll end up feeling better for it.

I don't mind cycling or freewheeling down hills...don't like running down hills though;I seem to lose control if I go too quick and therefore have to run downhill with the "brakes on"

Well done, Trinity. I must say I'm with Steve on keeping to the training plan. An easy week of 24 followed by a harder week of 41 sounds sensible. Especially now that you know you can do 43 in 8 days. Why hurry now?

I hear what you and Steve are saying but I feel that going from 30 to 24 and then up to 41 will suddenly put too much on my leg.

Also I would like to catch up a little on the schedule, because constantly being behind as the weeks go by is not doing much for my confidence...especially when I know that the 20 mile long runs are not too far away.

I've just got back from a 3.7 and I'm taking tomorrow off. then I'll do 6 wednesday, 7 Thursday, a couple on Friday and 15 on Sunday... but I sincerely promise not to push the pace... they will all be focused on distance rather than speed

Glad to see you are getting plenty of (late) advice, trinity! Having done one half marathon I did not think I had the experience to comment on your situation. having said that here goes!!

I think you are doing the right thing! Build your miles slowly and don't be obsessed by being a few miles behind schedule. Your body doesn't forget how to run, you have thousands of miles under your belt, so if you are fit to start your race I'm sure you will finish it!

Good luck!
