Great Scottish Swim

The Great Scottish Swim takes place in August in the loch in the park I do my long runs in.

I quite like swimming although I'm hopeless at it. I'd quite fancy doing this race, as it would give me a focus for improving my swimming, but it takes place six weeks into my training for my second marathon this year.

Do you think it would be a good idea or bad idea to do this event and use swimming as cross training, while building up for the marathon?

Oh! Then there's plenty of time. And if you could combine that well with your plan and not miss out on long runs I believe it can only be benefitial!

The swim race is on a Saturday, so wouldn't interfere with the long run on Sunday.

I'd probably be able to fit in 2-3 swim sessions as well as my running.
